Stroller;686337 wrote: Sorry to anyone if it appears i was being sarcastic it was not my intention to be, although reading back i can see where it could be perceived to be the case. I could have phrased it better................ what i meant was Gill had already called Kazazala a Geordie and Carol said she didn't know who the Mackem was. I know how proud you folk up there are by being Mackems.
Apologies to everyone and if i am allowed to post again i will certainly think twice before i write.
HI stroller:D Thanks for apology and of course you are welcome to post here as is anyone, we are not fussy:wah:.....:-3 oops that sounds bad dunnit:wah: Yes i am proud to be a Mackem ( although our footy team isnt doing us too proud at the moment!) But its a funny thing up here, some people dont like the term Mackem as there is a big divide as to wether its a good name or a bad one, as in where it derives from i think. Some people think it was given to us by the Geordies and used as a sort of insult, whereas others think its to do with the Mackem and Takem thing referring to our past shipbuilding history.
we are now an official word in the Oxford Dictionary
Mackem, n
Brit. / mak m/, U.S. / mæk m/ Forms: 19- Mackem, 19- Makem. [App. < mack, mak, regional variants of MAKE v.1 + 'EM pron.
Prob. with allusion to phrase mack' em and tack 'em and variations thereof, said to refer to the shipbuilding industry of the region, the suggestion being that in Sunderland they make ships (mack 'em) so that others can take them (tack 'em), or, specifically, that the Geordies of Tyneside would then take them to fit them out. Cf.:
1973 Centenary Programme: Sunderland v Dolphins (Sunderland Cricket & Rugby Football Club), We still 'tak 'em and mak 'em and ye canna whack 'em'.
Perh. partly also with allusion to the pronunciation of MAKE v.1 typical of Wearside, as contrasted with that of Tyneside.]

My neighbours moved yesterday so they were round to say cheerio with their gorgeous Golden Retriever and then more visitors later on.
First thing I would like to do is to leave these few wise words for Kay,
There's one sad truth in life I've found
While journeying east and west -
The only folks we really wound
Are those we love the best.
We flatter those we scarcely know,
We please the fleeting guest.
And deal full many a thoughtless blow
To those who love us best.
Like Carol said earlier we have all had our fair share of hurt and the tongue is mightier than the sword so rise above this sort of thing and hold your head high we are all here on this earth for a purpose.
Joan what wise words from a very wise lady and so so truexxx

omg carol, it aint changed that much after all !!! the one of the priory was good to see, my mum used to sit outside and take the money from the visitors to go and look round the place and there used to be a massive tree hanging over the wall that nearly touched the ground. it used to be my hiding place when i was in trouble for not going home on time.
opposite that there should be a row of about eight council houses, the first one was my nans and my aunty was born there.

is it any quieter down at your end of cornwall ?? you can certainly tell the difference here now.
Our village was packed on monday for the fish festival, I only ventured out to my sisters farm yesterday and took the back road through habit, didn't notice it was any quieter though.
Our local tesco was really busy late yesterday afternoon according to my sister, no doubt all the families will be off home soon and then we'll be invaded by the over 60's for a few weeks.
Once the month of August is over with I'll start venturing out a bit again :wah:

oh yes !! the dreaded turkey and tinsel brigade :-2.
for those of you that dont know about that, its the xmas coach trips/ xmas dinners etc that start next month and go on til feb/march time. its another way of keeping the hotels in buisness over the winter.
at least we dont have to put up with them peeing in doorways or fighting with the bouncers do we :wah:
well the day didnt end very well yesterday. We had to take my dad back to the hospital again last night. He has never really felt right since having a small stroke a few weeks ago, kept getting numbness (which they called baby strokes) confusion and just generally feeling ill. He felt terrible all day yesterday and i think he is getting really low now as well. Anyway the doc that finally saw him decided to keep him in and start investigative tests as he has been waiting for an appointment at the TIA clinic for nearly 4 weeks. As i have said earlier it is his 70th
birthday today and we had planned a party for him. Me and my sis in law were doing the food and of course i had been out buying stuff yesterday and my sis in law had been making pies etc. Oh well at least they are going to start doing tests now, and hopefully they will shed some light so that they can help him. We are going to take his cake down there tonight though so that might cheer him up a bit. Anyway moan finished now. Sorry not feeling too bright today.
Take care everyone:-4 Kaz.

EEuuuggghh! Don't have that problem where I live now, high on a hill, the drunks never make it up here :wah:
I had the pleasure of shopping with Mother today, our town is still extremely busy, the traffic was a nightmare, perhaps there will be a mass exodus on saturday as a lot of schools go back next week.
Good thanks, been running around with Mum getting things ready for her 75th birthday party tomorrow. Also went to the college open day, have an interview tomorrow :-3 all will be well though.
Tired out, just finished three tarot readings. :yh_tired
