Could you write a few sentences about him, neffy? Then we'd all get to know a bit about him. Do you know much about where he was raised? From those dates it looks like he'd have run slap into the war when he left school.

thank you spot,it would help me if that is ok.

My dad was born in County Durhum,he was one of 5 and his dad was a coal miner. In the early 30's the whole family moved down south, where is dad became a driver for a some lord and lady not sure who

Dad lied about his age so he could go to war,he fought in India,Egypt where he met Monty, dad came away from the war 2 medals which is something i did not know until after his death. In July 1998 dad was told me he had stomach cancer,i was so upset but dad would not let it get him down, dad passion was football and every week he always went and supported his local team.

Dad was a builder bt trade and we always had a good stantard of living ,in dec 1999dad went into hospital to have his stomach removed,he so brave and he was in there on xmas eve which was dads birthday so all the famliy spent it with him.He came out of hospital jan 2000 being told that they found a shadow on his liver:-1

And in may i met him in town and had coffee with him, which is when he told me he had only 3mth to live the words he used was this "its a bugger but i have only 3 mths to live"And he did die 3 mths later, thank you spot for giving me a chance to write a little bit on my dad.

Hi Neffers. :-4

I'm with the others. I'd like to hear about your dad and maybe see a photo if it's not too painful.

Accountable once urged me to tell him something funny about my mom. A good memory. So I did and it lifted my mood to remember the happy times and not just the sad ones. He knew what he was doing. :-6

I am sorry about the space between you and your sister. Death causes weird things to happen in families sometimes. Don't give up hope though. Have you tried to see what's up?

Hi Neffy, today is going to be tough but try to remember all the good things that came from your friendship, he looks a lovely kind man :-4

Maybe you could try offering your sister an olive branch, you never know she may be waiting for you to make the first move, as we all know life is too short for regrets and at least you would of tried.

Sending you my thoughts and love :-4

Mr Race, it's wonderful to meet you. You led a life most men can only aspire to. You represented your country and yourself in the highest tradition. You made lives better by providing people with shelter to house their families and memories. Most important, you did an excellent job as a Dad, raising a proud and loyal daughter who is a better parent because you showed her how.

I salute you, sir. :-6

Neffers, I am hesitating putting this here for you because I don't want to make you sadder. On the other hand, maybe it might be of some use. This is one of my favorite poems. It sums up exactly how I feel about my mom and my family.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glint on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,

I am the swift, uplifting rush

Of quiet birds in circling flight.

I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.

I am not there, I do not sleep.

(Do not stand at my grave and cry.

I am not there, I did not die!

HI Neffy:yh_hugs. I think what Red said about trying to remember some fun stuff and happy times is a good idea. Sometimes we dont realise how very lucky we are to have precious memories to look back on. County Durham is not far from me! Your Dad sounds like a good man Neffey, and im sure he loved you just as much as you love him. :-4

Red, i love that poem too:)

I found this on a little card a few weeks ago at a church fete, while we were on hols.

What is dying?

A ship sails and i stand

watching till she fades on the horizon

and someone at my side says " she is gone"

Gone where? Gone from my sight

that is all, she is just as large

as when i last saw her.

The diminished size and total loss of sight is within me,

not in her, and just at the moment

when someone at my side says,

" she is gone", there are others

who are waiting for her coming,

and other voices take up a glad shout

"There She Comes".........

and that is dying.

Bishop Brent.

Wow. Now that's a good poem, Kaza. I'm going to save that one. :)

And Neffers, death can't touch love. Even it isn't that powerful. Your dad loves you just as much now (if not more) than he did while on earth. Count on that. :-4
