Teen Sex: The Myths Realities

Post by capt_buzzard »

In Europe.

Ten-year-olds on the pill, a teen orgy craze called daisy-chaining, and a magazine survey that claimed a quarter of girls have already had sex with three partners by the time they reach 14.

It is a dangerous myth that all 14-year olds are sexually active. The big problem with stories that one hears everyday is that,it is also being sent out to teenagers that everyone is doing it and it adds to peer pressure on them.

The age for first sex has stayed fairly steady over the years. It used to be 17. Now its 16,but that does not mean they are all at it. There is still a lot of teens who leave it for much later. The average Irish girls first visit a family planning clinic at 17, and most will have been sexually active around a year.

Teenagers are naturally programmed to start becoming interested in sex by the pop culture, but it seems they may also be hard-wired to exaggerate their sexual prowess.

I agree peer pressure puts the need to do on a lot of kids. What ,most of them don't realize is their peers are LIARS, agrandizers and a-holes trying to look cool. So in fact they are the only person having sex - unless, of course, they are lying.

I refuse to believe that either of my children will ever have sex before the age of 25!

I know if you asked me when I was 14 if I was a virgin I would have said "no way" I've been doin' it for years... there was this girl in Canada -yada yada.In Ireland Europe, the survey was carried out

anewlife wrote: Yes - but the problem is - the people who respond to these things are usually the most active. So your group set by definition is going to be biased. For example if I started a threat titled, "how many times have you been arrested?" Most of the respondants, theoretically, would be people who have been arrested and are telling the number of times. I could use this data and make assumptions about the entire FG group...I was a virgin until I was 15 and that was a long long time ago.
