The season's first Tropical Storm has been upgraded to a Category One Hurricane.

Adrian is currently bearing down on El Salvador and thousands of people are fleeing from its destructive path.

Adrian is unusual for several reasons:

1. It's traveling in an easterly direction whereas most hurricanes travel north-west and

2. It's very early in the season to have a storm of such intensity.

Its path takes it far from the United States and after crossing El Salvador it is expected to enter the Carribean before losing strength as it moves on into cooler Atlantic waters.

The predictions for this season are not good, however.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami forecasts an above average number of Tropical Storms which are expected to develop into hurricanes with perhaps up to 5 of them reaching Category 3 or above!

These are forecast to originate in the Caribbean whereas Adrian is a Pacific Hurricane

it's now been downgraded to a tropical storm and is expected to create nor'easter conditions in new england this weekend.

Yikes! It must have reversed course!

It's supposed to be heading AWAY from us!

If it's going to affect New England we're bound to catch it on the way up there.

Ah, but C.Buzz. I hear from some Irish friends that they would gladly trade the odd hurricane or two for relief from that incessant rain you apparently get over there.

Mind you - I suspect that they might change their minds if they actually experienced a full-blown hurricane!

I shall take the snow thank you very much, least when it is summer here (for one day) we know it will be sunny and warm, no tropical storms, hurricanes, monsoons, tsunamis, tidal waves etc. hehehehehe

It must be a strange thing, this "weather" you speak of. We don't have that here in New Mexico. No snow, 265 days of sunshine, never too hot, never too cold, always around 60-75 degrees.

No volcanos either, and come to think of it, no earthquakes, no tornados, no hurricanes, no tidal waves, no high winds, no dust storms....

kind of boring really, :-3

Yes Jives - just think what you're missing out there in the desert. Life must be very dull without the excitement of the odd twister, dust storm or perhaps an Alberta Clipper coming down from Canada in winter.

There's nothing like strolling (trundling) along the Atlantic City boardwalk on a balmy evening, marvelling at the calm beauty all around and wondering when the next hurricane will make landfall.

You really should try it!

Oh come on Jives - you live where I live and you know there are Pacific hurricanes that skip up the Gulf of Mexico and bring us some of our 3.5 inches of rain a year. I'm surprised you didn't point this out to our Eastern friends. And no high winds?

3 weeks! That's not a drought! That's a small break in the weather!

We haven't seen a drop of rain since early March. The place is turning into a dustbowl.

The trees are threatening to drop their leaves and it's still MAY!

The birds are eating us out of house and home and can empty a birdbath in about 10 minutes flat!

My monthly water bill has reached astronomical proportions as Mrs Eagle turns on the sprinklers and leaves them running for hours!

HELP!!
