bullied

Post by neffy »

As alot of you know that last week,i was treated not vey well at work.I have been off now for nearly 2 weeks,i have had two meetings this, one with my section manager and the next day with my dept manager,i told them both how i thought i was treated and how it has affected me.

They where very understanding and took on what i said, well i was offered promotion:-3 this is something i will give alot of thought too, hubby seems to think it is there way of getting out of a bad situation.I am not to sure if i will be going back, where i work is a great company to work for and they have always been very good to me,but some unknown reason this has really got to me,and if any of you knew me in person you would be shocked just how much it has knocked me,i have never been bullied or picked on before and it is something i dont like to see.I do think this goes on in the work place much more then anybody knows,it is quite narrow minded of anyone if they still think this just happenes in school playgrounds.

Thank for reading xxx

I'm glad to hear they were understanding and took time to hear you out. As they should have. Whether you go back or not, that's probably one of those things that rely on what your heart tells you.

I dont know who the company is, or what you do there, but it sounds to me like they have offered a promontion, to avoid a lawsuit. Or at the least fines from the labor board. I do know what goes on in work places, having had two horrendous experiences in the last two years. The first one was so bad

( under the hands of a mysogonist) that the weekend I was off, after the Friday I quit.... I had such bad chest pains, I thought I was having a heart attack. The second one... was in a restaurant that I have lovingly referred to on FG as " The Womens Prison" There not only was bullying, there was also a daily campaign by management design to degrade, humiliate, and to beat the self esteem of female workers into the ground. I walked out of there also. If I think back on either place, it makes me feel physically ill.

Why dont you negotiate for a severence package ( since it sounds like right now, you have some power. Use the money to take some time off, recover, and decide what you would like to do next. I have learned it is never too wise to go backwards, and usually situations do not change.

Treat the two issues separately with regards to making decisions with your career.

1. The promotion as others have stated is kind of weird given the circumstances, however, not knowing the situation, they may be impressed with the way you handled the situation and see you as ‘management’ material. It depends on what the promotion is? Is there pay benefits, authority? Does it fit in with you career plans, do you want it?

2. Bullying: Is the bullying situation resolved?

In your discussions with your employer you should keep the two issues separate. Close out the bullying concerns.

Consider the promotion opportunity.

Don’t let the two overlap, they should be completely separate.

Something to consider:

Does the promotional opportunity provide you with potential experience to allow you to look for better job positions with other companies in the future? (use them for your own benefit!!)

Good luck!

My questions. What are they going to do about the bullies? Will they continue to work there and bully others? Will you be in a position to stop the bullying?
