A Russian village was left baffled yesterday after its lake disappeared overnight.

Local TV showed pictures of a giant muddy hole bathed in the summer sun.

Officials in Nizhegorodskaya, on the Volga river east of Moscow,said water might have been sucked down into an underground water-course system,but some had more sinister explanations.

''America has finally got to us'', said a local woman.

yeah, we are SOOOO bored with nothing else to do here in the States, that we devised a way to steal a Russian lake. Why not? The whole Afgan/Iraq war was just a smoke screen for our more sinister plan. Buwa-hahahahaha
