Last night I went into my favorite restaurant to have a sandwich, and hoping to see a few of my "Friends" This place is where I go when I need to have a little human contact, after long periods of being alone. The people I know in there, are people I see only there. So, I like them, but never get to know too much about their personal lives. Its all laughs and happy banter.

This couple had gotten together last year. She in her 50's... Hes around 60.

They both had been through gut wretching divorces. He lost a lot financially,she had a lot of heart ache with her children refusing to see her, because she was divorcing their dad. Well anyway, they were very, very, happy. He is the nicest man.... always smiling. All happy and jovial. Thrilled that he had found her. She was very attractive, Beautiful clothes, lovely thick blonde hair. Well manicured. She never missed telling everyone in the place how thrilled she was to have found him. She would put her hand on his arm, and say how he was the best man in the world. They just bought a new place to live in together. Bought all new furniture. They were like 2 kids.

So, I see my friend... his best friend, last night and I say " Whats new?"

" Well, he says " Did you know that Marcie committed suicide last week?

I actually got physically ill. Thought I would faint. I could feel the pain in my face. My heart took another blow. I didnt know ( my friend explained) that Marcie was bi polar. The doctor had put her on a new medication 6 months ago. She decided that because she was feeling so GOOD, that she would stop taking it. She kissed him goodbye this particular morning. Told him she loved him. And then went about the business of ending her life.

All of you here who have talked about struggling with issues regarding depression or being bi polar.... I want you to keep seeing your doctors and never do anything so foolish, as going off meds cold turkey. And if you feel badly or need help...... ask someone!! and talk. I feel so bad because I was never really very warm towards this woman. I wasnt rude, Id say hello. But I never reached out to her because she always sort of had this detatched look on her face that didnt make me feel she wanted too much contact. I should have made more effort. I shouldnt have presumed that I knew what she was all about. I should have tried. Experiences like this one are wake up calls, for me anyway. To try to be a kinder human being. To try to remember that mans role is to reach out to others, and not shut ourselves off in private little boxes. I am going to try harder today, to be better. My frriend told me that they set butterflies free at her graveside service, I cant get those butterflies out of my head. Thats a good thing.
