Surprise surfacing of a long lost friend.

Post by Magic Rhino »

What a couple of months I have just had.

Heard from my son in South Africa, he and his wife are prospering BIG TIME!

A cousin's daughter contacted me out of the blue in early June. We established e-mail contact, then a phone call and planning to meet in August for the first time, excited about that. So you think that is it.

Well she invited me to join her as a friend on the website FACEBOOK (not here to promote it, so if you want the address Google it). I did just that, two days later I get an e-mail from someone who asks if my birthday was "giving my date of birth" exactly. Alarm bells ringing, “security breach, fraud, steals my money and my life” kind of panic.

It only turns out to be a chap who was my best mate when in the army some 31 years ago. Spooky enough, well the story goes on.

We establish communication via facebook website, he lives in South Africa and I am in UK, chances of getting together pretty slim in the short term you would think. Well the spookiest bit is that he is coming over week after next; a couple of weeks after establishing contact. We are going to meet up at his son's place (in UK) for the first time in 31 years.

Well how’s that for POWER OF THE INTERNET. Don't you just love this invention, bring people together round the world, breaking down censorship and allowing the free flow of information (no excuse now for not knowing). Ok enough of this philosophical soppy bit.

Here’s a great big smile for you all. Do me a big favour and pass it on, lets see if we can make everyone smile on the week of the 6th – 10th Aug.

My long lost pal and yours truly are going to meet up then and boy are we going to have a few laughs remembering our youth and the chances we took. the love we lost, or was it lust, (never quite knew as a young man), cold freezing nights under the stars (we were patrolling for you romantics) dreaming about what we would do when we left the army, going to be reminded of distance past friends and a pet monkey I had called Ben.

Any how enough of the old waffle.

Hey guys, enjoy your life, remember this is not a dress rehearsal and it is the only one you going to get, don’t waste the time rather invest time. Do it today.

Walks out the room singing “Until we meet again………………………………….”
