Can I press charges against SIL?

Post by Ciao, Bella! »

I recently did a background check on myself. I was shocked to learn that over the years, with all the moving we did for the military, DH's sister-in-law showed up on our former addresses. It bothered me, as my mom didn't pop up like this, nor did DH's mom.

Then, I recalled a few things. Last summer, I had to have a Dillard's card with an outstanding balance, removed from my credit history. I've never had an account with this store, and neither has DH. In fact, the only ones in our families that have are MIL, (and she wouldn't do anything like that), and SIL.

I wondered if it could have been SIL, as in the past, she hasn't quite been on the up and up. However, I let it go.

The other thing I remembered was about ten years ago. While living out of state, we discovered that our Sears bill had been crossed with BIL and SIL's. We were getting their bills, with their account info and such, while they were getting ours. I tried to straighten it out, but was told BIL and SIL would have to make the same request. At last, I got SIL to take care of this, after three months. Gave it no more thought.

Other than the Dillard's card, apparently SIL hasn't used my name. However, it is apparent she has used our addresses in the past. She's always had a PO Box, so the bills for any account she didn't want BIL to see would go there.

I wonder if I can press charges against her. I don't really have concrete proof she did this, but I've a very strong gut feeling that she did.

I'm a bit lost in all that. Simply put, what has she done?

I'd let it go, no harm done really?

If it didn't cause you any grief, and you didn't really know about it until you did a back ground check on yourself...I'd let it go, just helps for you to be on guard from here on out though.

Are the last names the same? It may have been a mix up on the company's part. But I would do as Wendy suggests & be on the alert for other activity. I think you can request a free credit report on yourself every so often just to see what's there. I'd suggest doing that as frequently as you can.
