Ponder upon the prevalence of Christ figures in literature; both old and new. You can ponder upon this in reference to Santiago from Hemingway’s “The Old Man and the Sea or you can use the Disney movie “The Lion King and Simba can be the vessel for the pondering to be held in.

I see, well I can't abide people who are not fans of Papa. I shall have to smite you. I gave you two options there as i realize not everyone is a fan of the old fisherman, Simba performed the same role as Santiago. I guess wood chucks are more intellectually stimulating; different strokes for different folks. I'll give you a clue:

Average amount of wood a woodchuck would chuck in a given day

is 589 butt cords of wood.

Median amount of wood a woodchuck could chuck in a given hour

is 651 butt cords of wood.

Record high for woodchuck wood chucking of 6001 butt cords

was attained on 6-15-1996

(NOTE: the above tabulations take into account that woodchucks chuck no wood on

February second, in observance of ground hog day.)

Or

If a woodchuck could chuck wood he would chuck as much wood as a woodchuck would if he could chuck wood.

What is the sound of one hand clapping?

If a tree falls in the woods and no -one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

The poolhall's a great equalizer. In the poolhall, nobody cares how old you are, how young you are, what color your skin is or how much money you've got in your pocket... It's about how you move. I remember this kid once who could move around a pool table like nobody had ever seen. Hour after hour, rack after rack, his shots just went in. The cue was part of his arm and the balls had eyes. And the thing that made him so good was... He thought he could never miss. I know, 'cause that kid was me.

Guess you should have been more specific then. I had no idea that frog dances were considered intellectual enough to ponder. I asked for distractions; some times being open is far easier to accommodate. They were only suggestions not a rule. you could have went with Neo and the Matrix as far as I was concerned. Literature was also a suggestion as you can see movies work just as well.

okay, on to number 6.

Well The Matrix wasn't ever a book. You've done a fine job at avoiding pondering, you must not have been too bored.

Look I'll add a smiley so as to let you know i am just kidding around.

One thing that would help with my own ponderings is how to deal with a sort of bullying from a musician friend of mine. I say friend because he is one, but the problem is he has to be agreed with on everything, & that's getting in the way of the friendship. He's far quicker than me intellectually, he's far more articulate, he's far more knowledgeable, he's witty & he's very assertive. He can argue every point until you don't know what to say, then he 'wins'. But on the plus side he can make things happen, (it's 'his' band - although he insists we're all equal) ,he has energy & drive, he has wonderful insights, & he can be very supportive.

He's a teacher & he's due to retire this July, (he's 60 & has loads of money & a good pension to look forward to). I'm shy, I'm awkward socially, I'm single, I'm skint most of the time - OK, not totally skint, but on about £8K a year to his (joint) income of about £60K a year. I want to keep the friendship, but I want to restore the balance so it's a 'proper' friendship, not like feeling I'm a clumsy awkward teenager in one of his classes at school, needing to run everything past him for his approval, & 'needing' to be put in my place (below him) when rehearsing with the band or when deciding things - or being forced into agreeing with what he wants, which is what usually happens!!

Joe, that guy sounds irritating. Is there any insecurity on his part or is it all conceit? I had a friend who put me in a similar circumstance and my first effort was to talk to her about it. That wasn't easy because she could be a real witch. But I told her what about her behavior I didn't like and that it needed to stop. I did this talk thing twice to little avail. She wasn't seeing what she was doing wrong. After that failed, I figured I wasn't going to change her so I changed my way of dealing with her instead. I got my backbone up (hard to do because she could really intimidate me and that rarely happens) and started asserting MYself. I stopped allowing her to cow me. It was scary at first because I hate confrontation but boy did she take notice. For the most part she knocked off her crappy behavior toward me. In the end we had to part company but while we were still "friends," after I got a spine, it really helped.

Joe he dont sound like a friend to me,He sounds very overbearing and hes wiping the floor with u.Are u able to tell him he belittles u,or are u to shy to do that.Think u need to take a deep breath and tell him how u feel.If he's not interested then all I can say is he is not ur friend. If u can look at how many possatives u can come up with about him, then how many negatives, and if there's more negatives Id forget about him.You seem to be the giver and him the taker not a good senario.Good luck.

Joe, He doesnt sound much like a friend. more like hes got you where he wants you. What job do you do ? and do you feel this way because he is old enough to be your Dad and you find you cant argue with someone of that age. You say your shy and single, perhaps he feels like a father to you, as there is no woman or man in your life he could just be asserting his older self over you, knowing he can get away with it.

I would do as Ali suggests. or just say if he cant treat you as an equal then you wont be seeing him anymore. Try being in charge of the situation and show him that you can cope and you are not a little kid in his class.

Good Luck
