Chinese “Elephant Man to get 33 Pound Tumor Removed

A Chinese man known as the “Elephant Man in his local province is about to get surgery to have a 33-pound tumor removed from his face. Doctors said it may be the most extreme case of this type of facial tumor seen in the world.

The 31-year-old man has suffered from the tumor since birth. But left untreated, it has grown to more than 30 pounds.

The weight of carrying the tumor on his face has deformed the man’s backbone, stunted his growth and left him in physical and emotional pain.

A team of doctors will try to remove the tumor. However, the surgery isn’t without risk. Ultrasounds have revealed several large blood vessels that may hemorrhage and cause the patient to bleed to death during the operation.

Despite the risks, doctors said they are optimistic they can remove the giant tumor and reconstruct the man’s face.

That is gut wretchingly horrible. I hope they can help him. In the dentist thread, I mentioned being in a car accident when I was 16. There was also damage done to my face. Had it not been for a plastic surgeon, newly arrived in our country from Cuba.... I wouldnt be too nice looking today. He did a wonderful job. I have always been fascinated by plastic surgeons and surgery. Not the one who do elective surgery like boobs and face lifts. But those who literally give people back their lives but working on this kind of problem. They are angels from God. There are those who do the cleft pallates of children, for free. This man probably never had the means to have this taken care of. Can you imagine the life he has led? The discomfort alone, is too horrible to contemplate.

and him being only 31 he is soo young so he has the rest of his life in front of him, so he can go out a be a normal guy with out people staring.

Yeah i'm with Majenta, he was left that way intentionally to see how big it got. Its probably stopped growing now & that's why they are taking it off.

Yes I do. I've seen worse growths so this one isn't that uinfeasible except that it's on his face.

I watched a programme on a Romanian woman who had a 176 pound (80kilos) tumour removed.

It was unbelievable, not only the actual size but the surgeons that managed to effectively save her life.

No, I don't. Was this so, such an extreme thing, someone would already have tried to make money out of it, and it would be world news. It isn't.

You ever seen the footage of the American woman with the 200 pound tumor growing from her midsection? It was just on about two years ago as I recall. She was afraid to have it removed but it was killing her by usurping her blood supply. She survived the op. It wasn't world news and nobody's written a book.

Seems quite similar to the woman I'm thinking of. Pretty nasty. The idea of parasitic growths (I hate that ugly "T" word) squeams me out! :-3
