Coffee
i love coffee. every morning, two cups. i used to drink Peets, and i still consider Peets the finest around, but my budget just doesn't allow it. so i drink charbucks, i mean starbucks. 2lb bag of french roast from costco, very affordable.
of all the coffees i've tried, there are two that are my hands-down favorites: Peets Aged Sumatra - it has this fascinating, earthy aroma, and has a thick body that lingers on the tastebuds. sheer delight.
the other is a blend i created myself - 2/3 Peets Ethiopian Fancy, which has a medium body and crisp, clean quality, and 1/3 Peets French Roast. The FR adds a sense of 'heft' to the drink - Ethiopian Fancy alone is just a bit *too* clean and crisp in an odd sort of way - it doesn't linger enough.

Coffee
Give me Folgers or Maxwell House any day! I can't wake up without it!
Coffee
I'm on my fourth cup of strong, black coffee. I don't usually drink more than 2 or 3, but I got up early and have to make it through work today.
Coffee
When I get a hankering for coffee (which is every morning and every afternoon!) I'll drink almost anything. Doesn't matter if its brewed in an old aluminum 20 gallon tanker or off an espresso machine and put into a paper cup.
One thing I do need with my coffee - some sugar. I'm even happier with some cream or lots of milk.
A phenomena we have where we live are those little coffee kiosks that are permanently placed in parking lots, gas station lots, etc. As of this last year we got our first Starbucks. We have, however, probably a 100 of these kiosks around the area. My favorite place? Looney Beans near the Texaco station. :driving: They make great coffee and have any type of coffee drink you could imagine.
The best part? Doesn't cost the Starbuck's price of $3.85! Usually around $2.00 to $2.25 for a Latte or Mocha. Double shot. 16 oz. Fuel for life!

Coffee
I use 8 oz. mugs at home. I don't care for any of the flavored coffees or cappicinio(However it's spelled). Just good old regular coffee.

How do people here make their coffee? Describe the actual process and
utensils, if you will....
utensils, if you will....
Coffee
Old Brown Java always come back to it. All the other ones are too sweet for my taste or just not strong enough.
Currently just buying and using a cafetierre to save money but used to but the beans grind them and use an expresso machine two of those stupid little cups at a time. curiously enough I drink less coffee if it is decent in the first place and am less inclined to buy out cos my own is better.

I've got an aluminium expresso pot to stick on the gas - it makes very good
coffee which is a bit of an eye-opener, if you know what I mean. Otherwise,
just a coffee jug is fine, I find. I usually use instant coffee, though - preferred
brand is Nescafe Alta Rica, made with two teaspoons per cup, MIF.

I,ve got those as well bought one decided it was too small and then bought one twice the size, the expresso machine was a present. The machines have come down quite considerably in price. I need one that makes a lot of expresso at one time , hate those wee cups.

Do what I do most often: Put some milk in a mug. Unscrew the lid of a quality
brand of instant (e.g. Alta Rica). Add two good teaspoons of instant coffee to
the mug. Replace lid of coffee jar tightly. Pour boiling water into the mug while
stirring.

Wine is increasingly coming in screw-topped bottles. These are even easier,
'though wine cork etiquette is a minefield.
Coffee shops are strictly for the Dutch, at the moment.

Isn't it? Why not? Tastes fine to me, different, but perfectly OK..
Paula wrote: and the wine deal, i know screw caps are in style...actually i am not into the wine as much.
It depends on who you talk to. The average "wine buff" will probably complain
about a screw-top botle, or a crown cap (rare), or "wine in a box", saying that
it is an indicator of an inferior product. Plastic corks are next up the scale,
followed by composite corks. Still the best will be reckoned to be proper corks.
This IMO is possibly true in general, but highly likely to fail as a premiss when
shorter-lived products are considered.
Much of this "form" is encouraged by manufacturers, of course. One only has
to examine the daftness of Scotch whisky "form" ("blended" v. "single") to
see what a lot of tosh is expounded.

I am more the type of person who doesn;t need anything to get going in the AM., its in the evening, i have trouble slowing down, wine please.

Hm, I don't drink so much wine now, only a couple of bottles a week, maybe.
I've now have more cider, perry, and the odd beer as well, just wine is a bit
dull. Last night I had a few bottles of Marston's Old Empire, which was very
satisfactory:

I've had a couple of bottles of the Scottish Wine recently, too, but I don't
normally drink it from one month to the next.
Moderation and variety is the thing.

I suppose I sit around at work, yes. I like instant coffee, though - as much as
ground, I suppose. I can't abide weak coffee. Tea, however, is better than
coffee.

Try a few drops of old barley wine, nicely warmed. That'll slow you down......

An extract from today's "Daily Telegraph":
Why coffee is the cat's whiskers
Scientists have discovered what gives the world's rarest and most expensive coffee its unique smooth flavour.
Kopi luwak is made from beans that have been eaten and excreted by civets, cat-like creatures that feed on ripe coffee berries in Indonesia. Selling at about £230 a pound, it is highly sought after for its earthy, syrupy flavour.
Massimo Marcone, a food scientist at the University of Guelph, Ontario, reports in New Scientist that the animal's digestive enzymes break down protein inside the beans.
It is protein that gives beans their bitter taste and the enzymes help to give the beans a mellow flavour.
Yum!

Yes a tasty Irish Coffee, i need one today, i have it like this; well brewed coffee, 1 (big) shot of Jameson Irish Whiskey, 1 (big) shot of Baileys Irish Cream, tiny shot of cream to the top, slight drizzle of Creme de Mint, so good, you feel good too, yum, yum....Later for sure.

Great and cheap way to get homemade latte. Heat up some milk, pour it over coffee grounds in bodum/french press. Wait about 3-4 minutes and press. Change strength by changing coffee ratio. Tip: harder to press so break top grounds with spoon first then might have to slightly lift press again throughout descent.
If you are really in a hurry to start the day out right, heat the milk in the microwave.
Mmmmm. Hard to enjoy normal coffee at home after this though.

I'm lazy. I just buy NesCafe Alta Rica. Its strong, black and beautiful. At festival & holiday times I bring out the beans. :-6
Coffee
What do you reckon is best
expresso, filter or cafetiere?
I like expresso but it's too footery in the morning plus you can only make these stupid wee cups, ok I used to make two at a time but you get my drift.
Filter can't make up my mind never seems much good.
Cafetiere convenient maybe I should start getting old brown java again, quite difficult getting consistent quality though.

That's over doing it.The Jameson's is enough. Leave the baileys on its own.

I love preparing my coffee in my Bodum single serving press pot! Those coffee makers that use the paper filters... some coffees, especially the African coffees, lose something in the filtration process... and I don't care for the gold filters, either. Besides, I just like making coffee in the Bodum, for some reason. I even like the way that it sounds saying... Bodum.

I'm not convinced. Either it's muddy or it's too cool, I never worked out how to get it clear and hot with one of those. Nobody wants scalding, it wrecks the taste. Pouring boiling water on coffee grounds is never a good idea.
The machine I like most is a cona over a spirit flame. The coffee never has anything at boiling point touch it, but the final product's at the right temperature.

Ohhh I sooo miss my coffee! all this talk makes me want to run out to Starbucks!
I use to drink 2-3 Starbucks a day...I love iced mochas with whip cream and caramel on top! YUM! and the kick kept me going all day, think straight and of course I wasn't hungry......
I had to quit/cut back on coffe due to getting palpatations. I have MVP (mitral valve prolapse) quite common and nothing to worry about usually, but stimulants makes me go 'flutter flutter' if I get too much.
So now, that sweet aroma I crave, but money I save
as I treat myself with a chocolaty cup, every Friday after sup.
corney I know.. O,o
