Drop-ins!

Does it bother you when people come to your house unnannounced?

It pisses me off royally!

And it just happened again today. I know this couple and they're very nice and good people and I enjoy their company, but they ALWAYS come over unexpectedly. And it seems like they never pick a time when I'm fit for company, but always when I'm still in my nightgown or scuzzy from working with the dogs or something. Actually, I don't care about being messed up from the dogs but I do care about being seen in my nightshirt with my hair looking like I combed it with a blender and no makeup on.

I think it's poor manners.

And inconsiderate.

I don't do it to people. I always call first.

And how about company that doesn't know when to leave? The husband was over here yesterday for about three hours and both were over today for about two hours which is okay. But usually these two stay at my house for a minimum of five to six hours. And since I'm not expecting them, I'm trapped!

I just remind myself I'm lucky to have their friendship, and I am...but I have never liked drop-ins.

Another thing I'm having a problem with is my other friend coming over and helping herself into my house. If I'm late to the door, she just opens it up and comes in. This is the same friend who was reading my mail a while back. She too, often comes over unannounced and with her opening the door (I forget to lock it during the day) I have to have company whether I want it or not.

I'm not antisocial! But I'm weird about my home. I live here. I should be comfortable here and if I want to walk around looking like a mess, I should be able to without worrying that someone will catch me. Or maybe I'm down or pissed off and don't feel like talking to anyone. If I'm home, I shouldn't have to.

What's your take?

Ha ha, MUM LOOK AT THIS, I AIN'T THE ONLY ONE!

My mum makes fun saying that people, 'have to make an appointment' to come to see me, damn right. I have a telephone so what's the problem with that? I hate it when someone just rings the doorbell and expects me to drop whatever I'm doing or worry about a bit of a mess because I wasn't expecting anyone.

I have a couple of friends who say, 'why didn't you pop in while you were in the area' but I tell them I never just knock as I don't like it when people do that to me. They don't always get the hint though. :p

Not really, 'cos I'm hardly ever there! However, I must say that if the callers were people I had to "dress up" for, I would wonder why they were visiting unexpectedly!

It doesn't bother me. Nobody knocks on my door, everyone is welcome to walk right in, keeps me from having to get up and open the door for them. Now if the door is locked go away I'm knocking off a chunk, come back in about ten minutes.

I'm used to having open house, come one come all and if I'm in my scruffs then tough.

From the batchelor pad when I was twenty to the house I'm in now my friends and family are welcome whenever they arrive.

Unlike the batchelor pad, we do tend to lock the doors now when we're out so there's a keysafe by the front door - essential when the grandkids get peckish

I understand - since moving to a Golf Course property I see more people I care to and I'm wearing my PJ's. Theres a few friends that have dropped in and now are use to my morning look, and they're welcome - only a few are PJ screened.

My sister & I laughed so hard when I told her about a drop in...

We haven't see this guy for awhile, 6yrs maybe (golfing friend of my husband) anyway he's at my front door asking for Rich, no Rich isn't here etc. etc..... I'm pleasant, but don't care to chat, I don't care about his aches & pains - I don't want to hear his BS, I have my own. And I'm in my PJ's @ 10:30 am.

He says - you know me, OK, I'm so & so, OK, I lost my wife a few years ago,

Well she's not here and closed the door. Bye Bye now...

I live a ways out from everyone, so the only people that might stop in unexpededly are my brother and his wife or my parents and that's few and far between, they usually always call.

However, I do have neighbor kids in and out ALL the time, but that doesn't bother me either ... they keep my kids occupied

Several people see me in my SlobWear (tm) or nightshirt and my pink fuzzy socks but I don't like it and I can't wait for them to leave. Like Bryn, I figure they didn't let me know they were coming, they're in MY house, so I don't have to look pretty, but I still am ill at ease. It's just gotten to where my best friend can see me like that and we've known each other since we were kids.

Most of my friends know me well enough to not come by unless they call. i ain;t going to answer the door if you don't. I may not if you do. If I want to see someone I'll go see them, not the other way around, and yeah I call first.

If ya want to talk to me, you've got better chances just dropping in. I hate talking on phone, so most likely won't answer it if you call first anyways.

Laugh OMG my sister & I are still laughing

I wasn't really trying to be rude - but sometimes I'm just right to the point.

The look on this guys face - I can think back on my Monday morning and still see the look on this guys face - too funny - he didn't know what to say- blank look.

I don't appreciate people just dropping in - I have ways of making the visit short.

PJ screened - thats what I call it - very few are priviledged to have that pass.

I don't like people dropping in when their not expected.

I have a friend in Orlando who was.....um, a little strange.....she would complain about people coming over without calling but she would do it to me all the time! :-2

I don't blame you for being upset.If I had a friend who read my mail I would go nuts on her.Its bad manners and an invasion of privacy.Even my sister knocks before she walks in,even though once she is she acts like she owns it :wah: ,but thats ok,its my sis.

I dont like unannounced compay either.I do however dont mind it once in a while as long as they dont make it a habit.Telephones are a handy things to make plans with.I couldnt stand unexpected company staying for that long.Thats rude and unfair to the person they are seeing.I dont mind if they stay long if it is planned.Great thread and point.

Argh had it happen to me at 7.30pm tonight, so so SO mad. Was having dinner, son in the bath and Eastenders was starting! Told them they couldn't come in, it was too late to be knocking but had to let them in anyway.

Doesn't it sort of reduce life's natural spontaneity if one has to make an appointment before visiting?

If it's someone you hardly ever see, or it's at a meal time, or bed-time, well it may be awkward - but in general?
