“I’ve heard that you can calculate the outdoor temperature by counting cricket chirps. Is this true?”

Answer:

It’s true! Nature provides us with a lot of clues about the current or future weather. Pioneers, sailors and farmers depended on these clues to help them survive and created the weather folklore we know today – including calculating the current temperature by cricket chirps.

When do you stop counting? Is it timed?

Would it work if I keep a caged cricket or do they have to be in their natural habitat?

I dunno INSPECTOR koan (wink wink).

But I would think it would have to be outside.

I got this from my Weatherbug thingy.

I left this off.

sorry

So, the next time you are outdoors in an area where there are crickets, use the following “equation” to figure out what the temperature is: Count the number of cricket chirps in 15 seconds, then add 39 degrees.

but if i have to go outside i'll already know what the temperature is.

i wonder why you add 39? if 42 is the meaning of life (HHGTTG) and the meaning of the cricket chirp is also divisible by three and god is a trinity. Is God a cricket? :wah:

When is a cricket not a cricket (and therefore wouldn`t be able to give you the correct outdoor temperature, date, latest soccer scores and up-to-date share prices)? When it`s a little HO(A)RSE, ha, ha!

crickets chirp more consistent with warm weather. when its warm everything is singing and chirping & buzzing around. indoor insects do not apply to this theory, nor do snakes and turtles.
