I don't know....
I guess I'm supposed to be disgusted by this unfortunate person's supposed sloth and gluttony but I'm not. I can't imagine the humiliation of having to be winched off a ship. I just feel sorry for him.
Enough is enough.

I agree how embarressing. Image it....everyone watching from the ship at you being winched away. Hope he recovers soon.

Recently a local man who weighed about the same fell ill at home, in an upstairs flat in the middle of the town. The fire service had to remove a window to get him out and use a platform appliance to get him down to the waiting ambulance. This was on a Saturday with the roads at a standstill and lots of people stopping to gawp. It took over two hours before this man could be taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The point of me saying this is that this man's last hours were humiliating and embarrassing but his family have nothing but praise for the emergency staff who worked so hard to help him. He wasn't a glutton who stuffed himself non-stop. He became very ill a few years ago and the medicines and being unable to move caused him to put on massive amounts of weight very quickly.
So tempting though it is to pour scorn on people in this situation it is not always deserved.

yeah...for some reason the world's gone all pc except for fat people. It's still okay to make fun of them I guess because they're seen as weakwilled and out of control.
Ok but having said that...I am reminded of Donahue or Geraldo or one of those talk show guys who had a 1,000 pound man on their show. He was supposed to be going on the Dick Gregory Bahamian Diet and they made a big deal out of it. I still remember this. He said he ate 2 or 3 whole chickens, a couple pounds of bacon and I think, 2 loaves of bread a day. Just a crazy sick amount of food. But that's not the bad part... he was explaining how he went about his life at this weight. He was bedridden for the most part. Obviously a common toilet wasn't going to cut it for this guy. Once a month (his system had apparently gotten into this pattern) he would relieve himself in the *bathtub.* All I could think of was who is the poor sucker who has to clean that up?! And how do you go once a *month* without dying from toxic poisoning?!
And when asked how he washed himself he said "I use a stick with a rag on the end."
So I feel some sympathy but when it gets so bad you have to wash with a stick and a rag, that's too much. Well, and so's the bathtub.
They cut him out of his house after he lost a large amount of weight. He hadn't been out in years. He ended up dying soon after which I would think would be a blessing to be rid of such a torturous shell.

Oh poor guy, it must have been so embarrassing. At least he won't have to see them again.
