That is Awesome Susie!!!

I am ashamed to say that I don't read as often as I know I should. I have wonderful Christian books also that I start and don't finish... The book of John is the best place to start and then read the other Gospels. (Matthew, Mark and Luke). All of it is Good Reading of course.

I didn't grow up in a Christian home, matter of fact I'm the one that went to church and in the course over about 10-years, my family are very active in the Church and loving the Lord. He is Wonderful:-4

One of my favorites is Proverbs! Proverbs is full of good common sense for the Christian soul! It's also quite funny!

Look in the back of your bible, sometimes there's a daily verse listed. Look around online, there are several great sites for daily devotionals.

And I'm not good either at picking up and reading the bible regularly like I should.

Tim and I decided that we were gonna read ours for about an hour everyday.

Last night I started to read the book of John. Not sure where to go next. In all honesty I never read the bible.. Tim has. When I lived in Illinois I wasn't a very religious person.. I believe but my family never attended church & I know we never had a Bible. It was my brother in law that asked Tim and I to go to this church with him 4 years ago. The first day I went I was hooked and I felt like I had found what I was missing in my life after all those years. I am a born again Christian but I was raised (if you want to call it that) catholic.

Just thought I would ask how often you guys read the bible. ;)

I'm puzzled. If you are a born again Christian does that mean you can't be a catholic? What if you become a born again catholic

Do born again christians consider Catholics to be non Christian?

Seriously here guys I am not trying to be facetious.

GMC, I have heard the term born-again Catholics used here. I think they use it to designate those who believe salvation is through a personal relationship with Jesus, not particularly through the church. Although they usually remain Catholics, it is their belief system.

Do Christians consider Catholics to be non-Christians? No. It is a denominational designation. Like the different Protestant denominations. Protestants do not consider Catholics to not be Christians. (this is my viewpoint of what I think they believe)

That is what I believe Chronsi. But I do know there are some out there who believe otherwise. If you've read any of the Left Behind series you will see what I mean.

Ask some of the Southern Baptists who've visited us over the past year or so and you might get a different answer :wah:

In answer to the OP - I've read the NT through four or five times and dipped into both the New and Old as occasion demands over the years. Interesting book with much of use but not a literal and inerrant recipie to dictate your life IMHO.

Yes, I have read the series. I found them quite good!

It was an interesting take on the End Times. It is all up to personal interpetation, but frankly, whatever is going to happen, will happen.

Many and varied, several prompted from here, but Zelasny's "A Rose For Eclesiasties" sparked furious reading

Have you read any of the prequels they have out now for the series? I've read a couple of them. They were ok.

I've never read the "Left Behind" series but from what I hear it is pure garbage written in the name of God. In fact it is based on a misreading of "Revelation" which was a letter written about the Roman Empire and had nothing to do with a few thousand years hence. (J. B Phillips; Bible translator).

Hey y'all...

My earlier reply was a little snippy and I didn't mean for it to be. I wanted to change that. What I should have said is that I have read portions of the bible (psalms and proverbs being my favorites) but that it didn't apply to my own faith, not that that part's relevant.

Didn't want anyone thinking I had meant to be flippant earlier. Thanks! :)

There are several things in the Bible that are really inappropriate and don't fit well with the Christian faith. There are those, however, who will do some creative writing to make the irreconcilable reconcilable but it really doesn't work.

For instance a critical reading of Numbers 31 would give anyone the impression that God not only condoned war crimes but in fact promoted them. That is hardly the message that we get from the teachings or life of Jesus. In fact it is a disgusting story.

I quite liked the concept of "The Good Book : As Read By Larry King" cassette series, featured on The Simpsons several years ago. Homer's fast forwarding through all that tedious "begatting" businesss was hilarious ! :D

I haven't done much research on the end of time, but I'm not sure I believe in the way the Left Behind series showed it either- and I have been going to church my whole life!

My own opinion is that the authors wrote it just to show how vilely born-again Christians can behave and how despicable omnipotent divinities invariably are, but I bet they'd never admit to it.

Good points.

They even have it out in video game now and I hear that is fairly violent. Nice isn't it???

That certainly was not the life nor message of Jesus of Nazareth.

Of all the sacred documents in the world the book of "Revelation" is the most violent and despicable. A religion that follows its master who told us the greatest commandment was to love one another and then includes such nonsense is hardly consistent. J. D Crossan.

That is a misreading of Revelation. It is an attack on the ancient Roman Empire and not a predictor of some distant future day. Bible translator J. B. Phillips.

Obviously I don't agree with you. If we see in Jesus the fullness of God then I fail to see the nonsense of Revelation in his life or teachings. Since it was the scholars that gave us the Bible in the first place I will stick with the scholars.
