Kid's Treasure Hunt
We are having a block party and thought it would be fun to have a kid treasure hunt along our road - everyone hides something in front of their house..........YES there will be adults to walk the children.
What should we hide? We think it should be simple things.....a spoon or something blue....OR..Suggestions!!!
We need to make a treasure map too........don't you think?
Suggestions!!

Kid's Treasure Hunt
I've done treasure hunts with my children when they were younger at Easter time, I hide eggs with 2-line ryhming messages in them, leading to the next clue until they find their "Treasure/Easter present". Its great fun, but I would only do for a small amount of children.
I would suggest that you do a "scavenger hunt", make a list of 10-15 items or however many the adults are willing to hide.....make sure the items are accessible and they are able to find them, even if it means you hiding them on purpose....
I'm thinking things like red feathers, balls (you can specify which type/color etc). hats, easter eggs (Plastic)...and so on, easy fun stuff... just a suggestion...
Hope you have fun, I love doin' stuff like that for kids!:-4

How about an alphabet hunt? You can pre plan the treasures. But the kids go house to house to find something starting with a particular letter of the alphabet. To go with what wendy said....divide the letters up. Certain kids look for certain letters.

I like that idea... we used to do this huge scavenger hunt every year when I was in university... it was always a great success and lots of fun for everyone. I like to do treasure hunts using a map, secret messages, and clues... the more activities involved the more there is for everyone to partake in... be certain to make it educational and rewarding for them, too...

Better to have individual cards with clues leading them to the treasure. That way every kid gets a chance to look for something.
We wrapped small candies in exactly the same type of gold paper and hid them. That way they all knew what they were looking for.
The cards work well - you make the clues really easy for the very young kids - and the treasure very easy to find. The older kids get slightly harder clues and the treasure is slightly harder to locate as well.
Lots of cards means lots of treasure and you can make sure that the kid does not get their own house to search as well. You can have a block map showing each house with a treasure X on them so they all know everybody is involved.
Good luck with it!
WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!! Thanks
