Good for Dad

Post by weeder »

My dad is 78. He looks very good for his age. Hes been divorced from my mom for about 22 years, He pined over her till about 2 years ago. Since then, hes had all types of women chasing after him. We always laugh, because Im 55 and I never find anyone to date. He gets involved, but quickly loses interest in women who are too independant for him. He wants them to make him their priority. Hard scenario to find in these times. And he always says " I just want a little affection" So anyway, a few weeks ago, he starts hanging out with a 51 year old woman. She has a crippling condition, along with a host of other difficult life situations. She is thrilled with every little kindness he show her. Appreciative of dinner out, or his cooking for her.

I thought it was a little odd that there were times in the past few weeks when he didnt answer my early morning phone calls. And he stopped calling me at 7am as soon as he rolled out of bed. Well! my son tells me this morning

" Mom, you know, this woman is spending nights over night with grandpa." Well, of course I dont know. That is not something my dad would say to me. Hes very happy. Im very happy for him. It would be so nice, if he wound up with a companion, after all of the suffering he did after his divorce from my mom. Life is very interesting. New surprises every day. This was a good one. Kind of puts a cramp in my thread last week entitled. " With age comes less interest in............ You know what:wah: :wah: Thats OK.... its a good thing. I guess, Im just in the mood to write today. Thats a good thing too:-4

Yes..... he is BALD..... and has no money to speak of. Just a nice man. With some old time outlooks, and believe me, plenty of quirks.

Aw, that's great news for you and your dad. :-6

My mom is the same way (well maybe more in a bitter, angry way) about not letting go of a divorce. It has been over 20 years for her, and she has never been on a date, even been for coffee with another man. Instead, she has a dog. And tells me she doesn't need a man, because dogs are "loyal" and men are not. :wah:

Anytime my sister or I had a break-up..she would tell us.."Oh for christ sake, just get a dog. They're loyal. Sure they lick themselves, but that saves us an extra chore." :wah:

Your mom.... could be my mom. Bitter, angry, rehases the past. Hates my dad.... hates most people. Mine doesnt even like dogs. She doesnt like me, either. Its awful, isnt it? It kills me to write this... she is 76, but looks like 96.

She could never relate to my sister or I being madly in love with someone, or how we were willing to overlook their faults. For years, I believed their divorce was all my dads fault. He didnt make her happy. I now know better. She didnt make him happy either. She wanted to leave him on their honeymoon, but didnt. She should have. Oops... but then I wouldnt be here. Oh my!!! I may have just written myself into understanding why she doesnt like me........

I'm with Abbs on this one, Laura. As long as you continue to believe in the *inate goodness* of people, then I truly believe that love will come your way :-4

Cher, Ive discovered finally, at this age.. that there are all kinds of love. I have a great group of women friends down in Georgia, who love me, faults and all. They even know how moody I am, and they love me anyway. Ill more than likely be heading back down there, at the end of this year. The Ble Ridge Mountains are lovely to look at, Incredible to behold. But they wont keep me company when Im lonely, or old.
