Babe, Hun,Sweetheart.........
Ok, here goes, why do some men think they are all that?
If I had a dollar for everytime a man came in for me to fill his prescription, hey babe, excuse me, have we slept together, ah, no, so then I dont think you should be calling me babe, and when some really obnoxious man buys condoms "Hun"
ah, no , I mean even my new boss, calls me sweetheart, honey, babe, hun, lets see what else, his all star player(dont ask)
And no just because I think he is cute, I do not flirt with him, he is married with children!! But he's gotta touch ya when he is speaking to ya. What is that guys?

You have to love it. My boss calls me sunshine! I kind of like that. My surgeon on the other hand calls me hun, babe and always has to touch me, I hate that.

Girls, yes men are pretty transparent sometimes, but its when they stop trying to flirt with you in any way whatsoever, and instead avoid your gaze, thats when you should start complaining. :wah:

I have always had a very strong adversion to being called Hun, Baby, etc...
I have often had to carefully and politely ask to be called by my name. " I would really appreciate it if......." With customers at the counter you say Sir,
my name is...... No one should reprimand you for this, as it is your right not to be insulted or made to feel uncomfortable, at work, or anywhere else.

Sausage? That's cute, Soberano.
I don't mind terns of endearment from strangers or familiars except don't ever call me baby or any variation thereof. You didn't give birth to me, I ain't your baby. I'm a grown woman. Call me dear or sweetheart or something similar and I'm charmed.

The reason I dislike it so much is because firstly, it diminishes women. You dont hear men call men Baby, Sweetie, and Honey. Secondly, it can have sexual undertones which coming from someone who I find undesireable, is very unpleasant. As always, the reaction in my head and stomach is determined by.. who the person is, the delivery, and the look on their face.

I like it if they are calling me baby or hun and its sincere, but condensendingly really ticks me off. I don't like someone to call me baby while they are telling me that they are breaking up with me:-5
In a professional place, I think it's inappropriate. I work with mostly men...and fortunate that they are not pigs! Yeah I said pigs!:D

I think any endearment from anybody is nice. I am very sweet and quiet and soft spoken so I take it as a genuine compliment. :-6

My point is that there are a lot worse things too be called. Sometimes men dont know what to call women and are afraid of offending. If a man calls you babe its because he is not sure what else to call you probably, I don't think he is trying to be anything but safe. Don't sweat the small stuff.

I agree 100%.
If my boss called me hun, sweetie or something else I would feel belittled.
Many men do it in a condescending sort of way, and the only thing they manage to do with it, is **** me off. Which was not the intention to begin with, hopefully.
I don't really like to be called that by women I don't know either, but it doesn't really have the same bad ring to it anyway.
So if this is just another way for some men to prove they're superior to women, the can kiss my ass.
But like you said, it depends on the person, really. You feel when there's something more than just being friendly or condescening.

If my boss called me anything other than Terri or Ms. Williams, I'd have to put him right. Anyone else is fair game. I have to say I have never felt (that I can ever remember) being insulted or feeling condescension when a man called me some endearment. Call me a throwback to the dark ages but I like it. I find it charming and I'm a big flirt. But that's only men. If the store cashier lady calls me honey, I cringe. She can just call me ma'am and that'll do.

the thing with guys too is that even with each other it seems that they're more likely to use terms like man, buddy, mate, etc. so I see it as kind of the same thing.....:-6
plus, you get what you put out there, ya know??

I used to love it when I worked for a builder as a receptionist (mostly men) and the one salesman always called me "dude"...that was great
