Tattoos - when and why

Post by nvalleyvee »

I got my first (and only) tattoo at 48. I was walking along Venice Beach with my daughter and nieces when an oriental lady ran out and grabbed my arm. She insisted she had the tattoo that was meant for me. It was an oriental character for "to live your destiny". I got the tattoo and one month later I was diagnosed with cancer. I'll never forget that woman. She kept telling me I had the spirit to live my life to its fullest. Do you hear Twilight Zone music paying in the background? I keep wanting to darken the tat but it's on the arm they took all the lymph nodes out of and I'm told the artist would have to use some special disposable needles in a very clean parlor to risk it. So that is my story. What's yours?

I have a wrap on my right arm. barbed wire with a rose vine growing around it. Got it in memory of my Gramma Lennie. She was tough and beautiful.

the next one i will get is a sleeve on my left arm. Something tribal and organic. will take 6 sittings.

Very cool Wolverine - my daughter keeps telling me I am "thinking ink". The only tat IThe onl tat I've gotten really needs a touch up. Like I said - the docs are making me aware of infectiion. My thought is for ink-- I'm over year from cancer.

I`m tempted to say `Never`. Because if you had a lover and got her name tattoed, and then you split up OR say you supported a fave sports team and had its name tattooed and then it went bust or moved to another town OR you put Mum or Dad and then for example they did something you`d rather not think of them again..........well, why would you risk a permanent reminder when so many things could happen to spoil those memories?!

Therefore you tattoo things that you can't have those troubles with. I got my dragonflies on my mid back when I conquered my last very very last "irrational fear" Those things used to terrify me, and suddenly I was tossed out among them again when I took up some serious water sports and I had to get over them or become a victim of the stupid fear forever. It was a monumental year because at age 41 I also got over my horrific fear of flying too so they signified something huge to me.

Next is a "cartouche" a stone tablet with the 3 symbols of my life, myself, my country and my children. This goes on my thigh June 14

All these things will never change nor will the significance of my dragonflies and you know John, I took into consideration all that you mentioned and it took me 10 years to settle on my very personal choices.

To some tattoos are silly to others they are decoration and the rest of us they hold deeply important meanings.

I knew somebody who had a white tattoo on his manhood. I could only make out the first and last letters - W & Y. The rest was just a blur. A few moments later he got it "up". It read: Welcome to Barbados - have a nice daY

I'm thinking of having a load of baby rabbits tattooed onto my head - at a distance they look like hares (hairs?)

I have 3 tats myself.

tribal barbwire (flash art)on my left forearm, a custom stylized ankh that is blue and red on the inside of my right forearm. and my right bicep is covered with a custom piece that has two swords the sword of light and the sword of fire and a blue and red background that has a cavish feel with faces cut out of the background, very surreal/abstract. the one on my right bicep took 5 sittings 14-15 hours, it covers my right bicep. I intend to get it to wrap around at some point so I will have a half sleeve.

I just turned 18 at the end of January, and although most people dont think it's a good idea to get tattoos so young, I got something that I know I will always like. Plus its tiny, and in a place I can cover if I choose to.

My dad drew it for me..its a read heart inside a black cross.. for my grandma who died about 4 years ago who i was VERY close with.

My ex and I walked into a tatoo parlor one night on my birthday after dinner and he asked them "how much will it cost to put MY NAME on HER butt"....they told him and I punched him, we walked away....

Thankful I don't have his name on my butt now! Sitting on him would be just too nice of a thing to do....

Answer--I don't have any tatoos, and never will...

They should be using disposable needles anyways.

I got one done a little over a year ago. It's on my right foot. Me & my two bestfriends got the same one's.. 3 flowers. Pink(me), Blue(Em), & Green(Steph). I love it!! It's so cute!:D
