40 days until Ninevah is overturned???
Yom Kippur began yesterday evening and ends this evening. In Synagogues that believe the Messiah has come and in the ones that don’t, the Book of Jonah is read on this day. It is interesting that Jonah’s message from the Lord to Nineveh, was that in forty more days it would be overturned. It is even more interesting that here in the U.S., we are exactly forty days from elections. Coincidence or not, it should cause us to examine ourselves. Nineveh repented and was spared.

Most countries do,we have hallowe'en or all hallows eve as well, doesn't make sense till you realise it is the start of winter and in primitive times there was always the possibilty you wouldn't survive. Same with christmas, saturnalia or the festival of sun return was highjacked by the early christians as they couldn't stamp out the pagan desire to party as winter draws to it's close and you could tell the days were getting longer. Take away our civilisation and you can imagine how magical it must have been. Try living in a northern climate where daylight only lasts a few hours in winter you really notice the shortening and lenghtening of the days. Easter, funnily enough concides with the old pagan fertility rites.

You are correct as I understand things. Most Christian holidays are traditions of men rather than appointed by God. I don't look to them as having significance when it comes to God's timing because most of them don't even recognize the actual time they supposed to commemorate. Christmas is certainly not accurately placed on Dec. 25 and isn't even properly named. So when I wonder about 40 days from Yom Kippur, I'm wondering about an event commanded by God and an event men (terrorists) have threatened to turn into a disaster (Election Day). says who? If you haven't heard of this then it's completely irrelevant. I worry more about religious nutters that take these things literally and act to make them happen.

Not to worry. I haven't mentioned anything that wasn't already being talked about. The Islamic nutters have already threatened to disrupt Election Day. My whole point is that we have some real problems in this world and we need to be turning away (repenting) from a lot of ugly stuff to avoid bringing about our own distruction. It will be distruction that God promises will come as a logical result of our actions. If you spit into the wind, you probably can't avoid what will happen next.
