Anzac Day The 25th

Post by Lon »

It's Friday afternoon here in NZ and all the Kiwi's have taken off for thier Anzac Holiday Weekend. Anzac Day in New Zealand is held on 25 April each year to commemorate New Zealanders killed in war and to honour returned servicemen and women. The day has similar importance in Australia, New Zealand's partner in the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps at Gallipoli. The ceremony itself has been continually adapted to the times, but has also steadily acquired extra layers of symbolism and meaning.

The Aussies and Kiwi's appear to have been Cannon Fodder in the "Gallipoli" campaign of WW 1

Anzac Day also commemorates those killed in WW2 as well

They sure were cannon fodder and amongst the bravest troops ever seen. A lot of the lauding of Winston Churchill may not be so happy if they knew of his responsibilities for the Gallipoli disaster.

Have a good anzac day.
