Bentley's Child-Stealing Charge Dismissed

Man Can Face More Serious Charges In Johnson County

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa --





A child-stealing charge has been dismissed against a man charged with kidnapping and killing a Cedar Rapids girl last month.

The Linn County charge was dropped Monday so Roger Bentley can face more serious charges in Johnson County. Bentley, of Brandon, Iowa, is accused of abducting 10-year-old Jetseta Gage from her home on March 24.

Authorities say he took her to an abandoned mobile home in rural Johnson County where he sexually abused her and killed her. Bentley, a convicted sex offender and family friend, was arrested the next day.

He is being held in Linn County jail on $3 million bond.
