So I was on IFILM catching up on all the Superbowl commercials I missed, and I noticed that two of the top downloaded videos were Paris Hilton dropping some n-bombs at some New Year's party, and a trailer for a Disney movie in which William H Macy makes some crack to Martin Lawrence about "black jokes." What do you think this says about our society that, for some reason, these two clips are so popular? Why are we obsessed with racism?

My beloved and I went to see the movie Dream Girls last night. Definitely a chick flick, and some real hokey parts, but some of the most awesome vocals I've heard in a long time. That Jennifer Hudson (I think that's her name) definitely deserves all the accolades she's been getting.

I agree on that. The movie wasn't that fabulous but it was a great showcase for her voice. And I love the fact that she's plump and real looking rather than a supermodel. :-6

Poker is very boring when you don't catch cards.

I've quadrupled my money from 4 days though, so I guess that makes it bearable.

Oh really?

Care for a game? :sneaky:

No,

I fold probably 2/3rds of the time, and even more so when the blinds get big...

Trust me, bluffing only gets you into trouble, and you should only bluff when you know you can get away with it...(Sometimes you just know - I don't really know how to explain that better)

Any other time you should only do as logic tells one to do, which is to only bet when you really feel you have the best hand...

That should help you out in getting started, but to win consistently you have to have a mix of all of what I said...Luck isn't bad either, but that goes both ways, so I wouldn't rely on that too heavily either.

:wah: No I don't wanna a game unless it's 7 card stud, then I'm pretty good.

My problem with Texas is I gotta see the flop, then the river, ect. :o

Yeah, it can get pretty boring, especially when you fold as much as I do...

That's actually why I began coming here, so I could serf the forums as I played.

Well, I came here to ask about computer stuff, but when I played poker I started coming here and posting regularly.

I go all in heads up with some joker and he gets lucky and sucks out to give him a 2/3 chip lead and then he keeps bullying the pot and getting lucky. I went down from a 2/3 chip lead of $6,000 to $1000 after he gets lucky and make two brilliant slow rolls to win the game...

I waited for him to say something after I checked on the flop and he went all in with pocket tens, me holding JJ's...I love it. Next time he'll realize who he's dealing with.

I think it's perfectly normal that we're "obsessed" with it. Whether we like it or not, it's part of our culture. Accordingly, people have lots of conflicted feelings about it. Often, that means using humor to cut through the anguish. So yeah, if IFILM's users find it fascinating or whatever to see racism being used in certain social or entertainment-related contexts, I think that's perfectly healthy. Curiosity and all that. It's a ton better than actually BEING racist and going out and inflicting your mental problems on somebody else in real life.

Actually is IFILM controlled by user votes? I don't think it is. I think editorial staff decides what gets featured. So, in that sense, it could say something else about society that because of audience testing or whatever, an editorial staff would DECIDE to spotlight a bunch of racist stuff. I mean, I pretty much think any weird thing Paris Hilton does would make it up there, regardless of racist implications. Regarding the Martin Lawrence black joke thing, I don't see the harm in that really. It's really just William H Macy's character standing in for clueless white guys everywhere.

Was down from $1500 to $700 after some guy gets lucky and catches pocket JJ and then pocket KK's two hands in a row...I'm chip leader now though...

I've been in about 12 tournaments since I started playing again and have placed no lower than 2nd with the exception of twice...
