Describe masculine and feminine.
How are they the same?
How are they different?
Do they coexist?

I know I'm being masculine when I'm lost and I've burned up a tank of gas trying to find what I'm looking for...and I never asked for directions.:-5

Kabbalah says that masculine is force - the will to be anything. pure possiblility. that feminine is form - the ability to create something out of the possibilities.
some believe it follows that men are driven more by force and women by form and that is where conflict arises. the men resent that women limit them from all the other possibilities that could have arisen and the women resent that men won't just pick something and be it.

Whoa! man!, I mean wo-man. Oh I dunno, viva la difference I say, its never gonna change unless they re-engineer us, at this stage, I don't really care anymore, we are what we are, and generally its all good. I do like women, because they are different, and they stop you from running around trying to hunt animals, and killing things I suppose, but I also like being a man, I don't worry about it, there is far too much time spent on wondering why we are different instead of trying to work out how to share those parts of us that compliment each other. Still, anyway, its not like this issue is ever going away, so its always interesting. :-6

I read once that women speak while they are thinking and men speak after they think. That would explain some conversations I've tried to be in.

Like candy.
Men are hard on the outside with a soft center that requires chewing to get to. It may take a while but it's worth it when you get there.
Women are soft on the outside and show their feelings more but have a tough center to keep us from caving in from that same softness.
Both kinds can fit comfortably in the same box.

How funny Koan..................
On this day I can say we are the same......I think men are every bit as aware of feelings and women are every bit aware of ambition.
On this day we are different in most every aspect of our physical beings.......that's what makes us attracted to each other.
Do we coexist.......ABSOLUTELY!!!!!! We wouldn't procreate without it. We wouldn't seek one another out to have that emotional bond humans need.

I use the expression “wo/man as an attempt to separate myself from the effects of a history of spin, and to help the reader to become coconscious (aware plus attention) of that history and its crippling affect on all of us.
I also hope to begin a process for creating words that will help all of us to become thinkers no longer dependent upon ideologies that represent the spin of the past. The spin of the past has created a world that has universalized so many concepts improperly, and to the determent of independent thinking.

History is written by the conquerors.
Aside from that there is, I believe, an innate sense of feminine and masculine and I'd like to determine what those are and how they coexist.

If we agree that people have both masculine and feminine within them, either in balance or not, we still need to decide what those tendencies are. Assign qualities to each word.

We have all grown up in a culture that admires male superiority and thus we used male nouns and pronouns always. Never recognziing the femal gender.

I am not completely sure what a man is, but I know I am one, and I am happy enough, thats my attitude, and I don't have to completely understand what women are about all the time to treat them as equals either. :-6 It is an interesting debate I guess, but these things just tend to us making up lists, and then someone invariably says something a bit off, then it gets heated, then its over as a debate.

Yep. I wrote a long "thoughtful" post for this thread yesterday but it will stay here for the very reason you just gave.

That's disappointing.
If we have generally agreed that everyone has both masculine and feminine characteristics within them then why would anyone get offended to think of what those traits might contain?
Perhaps this could also steer in the direction of innate or learned behaviour. How much of our nature is nature and how much is nurture?

That's a nice vote of confidence. I'll pass the approval along to the likes of Lon Milo Duquette.
The idea of redefining masculine and feminine is for the purpose of reclaiming the concepts from the negativity that usually grips the subject and results in the disputes that some of the members seem hesitant to feed. I see no reason to fall into argument. I'm as confident in my own masculinity as I am with my feminine side.
Actually, maybe more so.

Sure. Or..............you could just plunder ahead without thinking too much about it.
I have a masculine and a feminine aspect to my being. Ok...that works for me.

This is philosophy. Why be satisfied with saying "whatever" when there is time to be wasted pondering the meaning of words? :p

If one foot was masculine and the other feminine then they would have to work together to get anywhere.
Why do I feel like you are leading this thread deep into a Nomadic desert? :wah:
