Yeah. I remember a snowy blowy day when there was an engine really derailed and buried up and I loved it since I was in a warm apprentice schoolroom and could see the action thru the window. Heeeeeee. Outside those rare cases, I hated to work in the snow.

I had potato and butterbean soup for my lunch today, it was lovely, shame me stomach is so flippin messed up! :-5

Anyone got any advice on nice things to eat when you have an upset tummy?

No tobasco-sauce related products obviously, oh and aspirin is right out as well! :wah:

Oh Gal, sorry to hear about your tummy not feeling good...I have a very weak stomach...they usually just tell you to eat crackers and light stuff, like soups. NO ruffage or heavy meats, especially grease...stay away from grease.

I was VERY sick during all of my pregnancies...to look at food sent me to the bathroom...and NOTHING would stay down, so I have lots of sympathy for people when they have upset tum tums...thought I would never leave the bathroom and live a normal life during 3 of the pregancies!!

Thanks WW, I have yohgurts, and soups, and I love crackers as well, I tend not to eat huge amounts of meat anyway, but yes I am avoiding heavy food at the moment, I wouldn't feel very well afterwards. I will be grand in a few days, the doc says its just because of what happened last week, and me body is still getting over it.

I learned to do them in school, but I forget now, oh dear! They have just built a Gaelscoile (Irish school) near where I live, its very big here now, as people want their kids to be taught in Irish, and to learn the old culture again, they are building loads of them, I am glad about it, I like having English as our language, its a good language, but it would be great if we really re-established Gaelic as a thriving language as well again, it seems to happening, which is great, as it is a store for lots of these cultural ideas, my own Irish is pretty bad I must admit, which is a shame, but i suppose if I spent some time in a gaelteacht I would be able to speak pretty fluently after a while.

Yeah, I think the thing they did wrong before was they made it very boring, and drilled it into us as some sort of Gaelic nationalist duty, which we were not into, now the idea is to make it more open, and make it a living language, not force is on people, and let them decide for themselves, unsurprisingly Irish people are now quite into it again, as yes, its a very beautiful ancient language and it is also our real language, which the majority of Irish people spoke up to 150 years ago, and one of the things that defines us, so if we don't actually keep it alive, who else is going to be bothered.

Yes, I guess most people don't realize that English only became the widely spoken language by all people in Ireland after that time, before that most Irish people spoke Irish, and a little English to deal with the landlord, but Gaelic culture is very ancient and it has survived a long time, and will almost definetly reassert itself here in Ireland again in time, but I wouldn't want to lose some of the other modern cultural things we have either, and English is a great language, and a very, very useful one to have, so I would be into having a completely bilingual culture here, with old and new ideas together.

Yes, its interesting, but you know, even modern culture changes over time, look at the way that ideas such as Wicca or various other very old ideas are becoming current again, or the way people are more receptive to eastern ideas while also retaining a western outlook on life in general, I like western culture, its cool, and it gives us a lot of choices, and I also like its ability to keep reinventing itself while remaining essentially based on its original ideas.

Oh that sounds nice, I had a potato and butterbean soup for lunch, but I wasn't able to eat since then, my tummy is too sore, I might have a little light snack before I go to bed.

Yeah, I try to eat as healthily as I can, though crackers and cheese and blue m&ms are a bit of a downfall for me! Luckily I quite like healthy foods like salads, pulses and vegetables anyway, so its not a chore for me to eat them! I do like a nice bit of a fry up on occasion though, Indian, Chinese, and bacon and cabbage of course! Yummy!
