There are all sorts of sayings about it.

Some wallow in it, some worship it, and others are totally repelled by it.

What is it that we consider to be evil?

Alot of what we name evil, is simply acts of human nature.

But how is all the ever increasing evil in the world effecting our faith? Is it turning our faith cold, like the scriptures said it would?

i knew evil existed on some level before i became a cop. now i can say i have met it eye to eye. 97% of the criminals i meet are just garden-variety stupid. then there are the truly evil ones whose eyes tell me so much, who shatter my very soul. serial killers. mothers who kill their children. on and on, the horror of it all, i look at some eyes and they are dead eyes, soul-less. it has not rocked my faith, but made me determined to keep the faith. and the evil of which i speak is NOT simply human nature, it is driven by a demon. and trust me, i am not some religious whacko. i just KNOW.

i can see why you would say there if more evil around today but is that true or is it just that we hear about if more and no longer hide our family sins with the broke up of family units there is less chance of things being hidden is it not true that god will punish these who need it or should we punish them?

Ice...this is true too. Plus, a lot more people watch TV now and channels like CNN report all kinds of "evils" in the world, making it much more known.

It's interesting to see how many of us are drawn to professions because of an intuitive awareness of this condition. The good cops I've known thru the years have, on some level, been called to it.

Kids seem to know evil the moment it is in their presence. It sure would be helpful if we retained that sixth sense. Another good reason to take your dog with you everywhere too, they also always seem to know.

evilness is the outright intent to hurt another and like it.

I am not sure if there is more evil or as posted we have better commuications systems and hear more about it. The other factor to be considered is the increse in population. What is the percentage now as compared to say 30 years ago? :-6

When I consider evil as darkness I realize that it loses against a very small amount of light. Evil may seem to be increasing as it works to overcome light but it will always lose.

Now try this: We are only able to perceive good to the extent it is contrasted by evil.

I think you are right on target Raven. Evil is simply an act of human nature and great evil doings are EXTREME acts of human nature.

I'm afraid I can't agree with either of the above two posts. I look at the likes of: Clifford Olsen, Jeffery Dahmer, Ted Bundy etc. These are more then extreme cases of human behaviour. They are the acts of a purely demented mind. I would indeed, call them evil.

until one day no one remebers or cares to turn the light on. The scary thing is that we, as a global community, have become immune to the "everyday" attrocities. Murder, rape, assault, and the like. It takes CNN to show the genocide in Africa, the unbelievable acts of terrorists. to make us take notice.

How long had it been since you heard anything about the homeless or starving of the world? But let an act of "God" like that Tsunami and people start to care again.

to me, Evil is the indifference of Good People.

I think the Bible say's where there is no harm there is no sin. Sin which I define as evil.

Something to contemplate, when is the last time you did something that caused no harm at all.

Took clothes or food to a charity. Did the exhaust from your car do harm?

Donate money. What about the tree that died to make your check.

Gets pretty weird don't it?
