Hey don't knock unless you've tried it!;)

Just happened to have Vegemite bread rolls with LOTS of butter for lunch today. Yum! And by the way, I am pretty sure there is no blood in Vegie

Oh, I've tried vegemite...twice, as I recall.

There are so many wonderful things about Australia and the wonderful folks who live there....

Vegemite ain't one of 'em!

What's actually IN vegemite anyway?

Can the taste be compared to anything we have in the States?

Well, taste is so subjective....but it has a sour, dirty socks-ish taste. And it's really stinky, too.

A couple of people have listed the ingredients already in this thread....read backwards.

Sounds a bit like Bovril, which is in fact nice, on buttered bread, or as a drink.

That's because Bovril has got beef in it! Vegemite hasn't, neither has Marmite.

I have just had some bread and Bovril. I will get the jar....



....beef stock 42%, yeast extract 24%, salt, colour E150c, waxy maize starch, dehydrated beef 1.3%, small amounts of othe stuff.

'Sok. Vegemite is very like Marmite, just lighter brown, and rather less strongly-

flavoured. I've never had "Promite", though - what's that like? Similar I suppose.

Promite, Marmite its all wrong wrong wrong, its like British KFC selling baked beans as a side dish - what happened to the potato and gravy???

Its vegemite all the way and besides how else would we keep our rosy cheeks!!!
