It seems that Michigan lawmakers want to make cheating on your spouse a criminal offense. Cheat? Go to jail. Interesting.

It seems that Michigan lawmakers want to make cheating on your spouse a criminal offense. Cheat? Go to jail. Interesting. You're misreading. It's a judge commenting in a footnote to a case that existing Michigan law, if applied as it's currently worded, could send adulterers to jail for life. He's merely pointing out an unintended consequence of a baldy worded statute already on the books.

I personally think that to cheat on somebody that loves you is about the worst thing a person could do to another .

as if the jails aren't crowded enough already. just what we (meaning those of you living in michigan) need another f.ck.d. up law that's impossible to enforce.

Not to bad an idea. However, I think that every small community must make that decision. Not the government or lawyers

It did read that there was a conviction for the offence in 1971. It wasnt clear whether the pain killer incident was the same or more recent though. It sounds as if its open to the acting judges discretion.

I recently had an incident of a aquaintance cheating on his wife, it was a very sordid thing and I lost a hell of a lot of respect for the individual.

The most offensive bit he tried to pull on me was his expectation that I would be on his side. Needless to say we had words and haven't spoken since. I'm not into that 3 Musketeers crap.

I think we need to go back to public whipping for things like this, not just men. Women too because when a man cheats on his wife he's not cheating with his right hand.

No one is more surprised then me when I say I agree with you, Scrat.

I must say though - before we go flogging women who sleep with married men, we need to find out if she KNEW he was married when the incident happened. While I have no problem with my "husband"s girlfriend being tarred, feathered, flogged and stoned to death - I know for a fact that she knew he was married.

When I was 20 and in the service, I briefly dated a "wonderful" man who told me that he was seperated from his wife and was waiting for her to file for divorce. He told me how she left him and took the kids to New England to live with her family. As it turned out, yes - the wife had gone to see family in N.E. , for a two week vacation!

We don't need jail. I support mountain justice in this case. They cheat, they get shot by the one betrayed. No more cheating problem. And the "don't judge unless it's happened to you" thing doesn't work on me. I think infidelity is a crime both legally and in the sacred trust it violates. I am livid just talking about it.

Obviously this law needs to be ammended

Every State (if researched) has laws from the stone age, that need to adjusted as society changes.

Nomad, I said shoot. Although I can understand why a wronged person would want to actually kill a lowdown spouse. I feel cheating is theft of the lowest kind, the theft of pure trust and what rightfully belongs to the wronged spouse. I am sure I wouldn't kill anyone were it to happen to me but I would want to and I know I would hurt the guy and the woman would have to leave town.

Frankly, I think that there is plenty of blame to go around. We both know LD that WE BOTH CHOSE NOT TO DO THE INTERVIEW TO THE PROPER DEPTH AND BREADTH.

We didn't want to inconvenience ourselves did we?

LOL! I didn't realize at the time that it was an interview. I thought it was a date. At 20, I must admit I was a bit naive and assumed then when you asked someone a question, they would give you an honest answer. When arriving at his apartment, there was nothing there to indicate that he was telling an untruth. No wedding ring on his hand and no pictures of his wife in the apartment.

Believe me - it was a lesson learned and one that I have not forgotten.
