Okay, here's some more. Since it won't allow more than 4 smileys, I'll just put in the code and since most of those say what sort of smiley you get, you can pick and choose!

Bullet's trial was a farce. Can I get an AMEN?????
I have what I regard as a disability in that any movement in my field of vision captures my attention regardless of whether I want to focus it elsewhere. It's why I can't easily be in a room with a TV on, the movement of the program drags my mind away from any attempt at conversation, I simply can't ignore it much though I've tried to over the years. The same thing happens with a computer screen. If there's movement on the screen anywhere at all it shifts my attention to it constantly, to the extent that I can't take in the content of the rest of the screen even if I'm trying hard to read what's written there.
The attachment is a screendump of how I've changed FG's appearance so that I can cope with this. I don't have smilies turned off - I don't even think it's possible to set the site so that they all disappear. I've installed a Firefox addon called "adblock", though. Every time I see a new moving avatar or smilie I right-click/block it and it never shows again. It means I can actually read the threads instead of rapidly getting a headache trying to ignore the movement. Smilies which don't move are still visible, as you can see, not that I take much inference from them. Wah, I'm told, moves, which is why it's not visible when I'm reading.
Firefox, incidentally, will suppress all flash adverts too if you press shift+control+F and that totally transforms the Internet as well. The Tools/Options/Content menu allows all backgrounds for the entire Internet to be set to the same bland colour, and all fonts to be identical and within a very small range in size. That saves me the other headache which comes from switching from, say, a red to a blue to a yellow background from site to site and wincing as my eyeballs rapidly adjust. Going back to using a vanilla view of the Internet with Internet Explorer is a major pain after getting used to a rational picture.

I've never yet actually found a reason to use the driving smiley. It's hard enough to talk on my cell phone, drink my coffee and read the newspaper while zooooming along the freeway avoiding police cameras with spidees on the lens, without typing FG thread replies as well. Still, multitasking and multiskilling is all the rage, so I'm working on it. Ditto - the guitarist smiley. I mean, if yer jamming, yer jamming... ??? Not chatting on line.
