Marriage no longer the norm in the USA?

Post by Bill Sikes »

"Marriage is no longer the natural state for most American women, according to figures published yesterday"

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jh ... male17.xml

(I assume this is the case for men, too!).

Marriage no longer the norm in the USA?

"This reflects the culmination of post-1960 trends associated with greater independence and more flexible lifestyles for women. For better or worse, women are less dependent on men or the institution of marriage."

Women have alot more rights than they did back in 1950 and so on. Most women were unable to get jobs, which is why the marriage statistics were that high...It goes with the territory.

Legal marriage licenses are useless and pointless, since the government recognizes common law marriage.

I'm not familiar with the story & google didn't bring anything up as quick as I wanted. Is he avoiding alimony because he didn't have a license?

He was forced to pay his ex wife half of everything he owns (Around 8 million dollars I believe)...He would have wished he didn't marry her that's for sure...

It was $15 million -

It looks from that as though he and his lawyers agreed to a very generous

"pre-nuptial" contract, which is what was enforced.

Why should marriage be the norm anymore? More than half the people who do get married end up in divorce. Others just decide to simply live together. I really don't care either way and am not concerned much with what the norm in our country is. It's all screwed up to me, regardless.
It is better to have your mind opened by wonder

than closed by belief.
