hey jimbo lad, I rarely drink at all any more actually, but I used to in my 20s a lot (I am Irish after all, a nation of famous alcos so they say), but I found as I was getting a bit older it wasn't doing me any good, and I wasn't really enjoying myself. Its my experience that life with little or no drink is actually great, its of course much cheaper, you tend to do far more interesting things than just sit in a pub with the usual suspects, and your general happiness and health improve vastly. It is a bit hard to have to give it up "completely" but you know, its only flippin drink, you don't need a drink to stay alive and you can live quite happily without it, in fact in general for anyone life is generally better when they partake less in anything (expcet water of course, cause you can't live without that). What I am trying (and failing to do at the moment, I admit) is give up the fags, now that is hard, much more difficult than giving up booze in my opinion, but then different strokes. But seriously if your doc has told you to give it up, you will have to do it, you seem like a good man, I am sure you will, and don't worry too much about it, you wont really be missing anything, its just that from a young age in Britain and Ireland our social lives tend to revolve around the boozer, but you can still have fun and not get pissed, it just takes a bit of a physcological rethink. After a while sitting in the pub doesn't seem as interesting any more anyway. Also, it means you can drive home as well, which is handy for when you do go out.
