Discrimination?
My Partner and I have been refused entry to a Christian club due to the fact that we are not married. They say to apply again when we have cemented our relationship! Is this type of discrimination allowed?

Yes.
Private members' club so it can admit fairly much who it likes.
It's not racest, sexist, agist so it's not actively illegal.

My church would be empty if they discriminated against divorced and co-habiting couples!!!!!!!
Would you really want to join a club like that?? Wise lesson learned early if you ask me.

Unless it's a Student Union club or something like. There's a fight going on about that at the moment.

american law includes "familial status" among the protected classes, but it's a private club, they can discriminate how they like, unless they are recieving federal money.

Typical.. Typical.. Typical. I just love people who put their noses in other peoples affairs. I would rather walk on hot coles than to ask for admittance to a Christian club.

Can't believe as regular church members that we could be treated in this way, we feel very shocked and let down.

The club does have charitable status, does anyone think i have recourse against their decision? Who might I be able to complain to?

Hate to say it but because it is a private club.. not recieving government support they are allowed to pick and choose who they admit. It really does suck and smacks of discrimination... but
think of this
Do you really want to be members of a club that treat people this way.??
Personally.. I would tell them to go to hell and form my own club just to thumb my nose at them.

I am in agreement with both SuzyB and grey. Why on earth would anyone want to join a group where you are not welcome.
One good lesson to remember is "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". I certainly wouldn't appreciate their behaviour it's disgusting.
Shalom

I recall a time when I was attending the 1st Church of the Nazarene. Some of the people who attended the same Sunday school class as my wife and I found out that we were going to Vegas the next week. One of the holier than thou women asked me how I could do this in good faith. I didnt understand so she said well Here you are in church and next week you will be sinning in Vegas how can you do that? I said wel if you believe I will be sinning next week and should not be in church I will ask you a question. Where is the best place for a sinner to be. She said well in church. I said voila here am. How convenient for me.

Talk to your preacher, or whatever you call him/her/them. If you're seriously committed to each other, the church should be willing to give you a holy ceremony without the gov't paperwork. If that doesn't work, they are placing the gov't above God - run away fast!
If you're not seriously committed to each other, then what's the problem?
