I know dolphins are smarter than this but maybe they were mistakenly pushing him out to sea thinking he was beaching himself?

I'll go for Vasyl's theory....it's not as if dolphins TRAIN as lifeguards!

If they're in a feeding mode...competition is competition, regardless of whether it's human or seals.

Why automatically assume aggression? There are plenty of recorded incidents of dolphins supporting swimmers in the water. Realistically if they had wanted to kill him it wouldn't have taken them very long to do it. They have teeth.
