Hiya Chris.

Are you really from Hoxton? I spent many a happy evening in the Bass Clef when I lived not far off.

Enjoy your time here, it's a fun board.

yes ime from hoxton, carolley and i are both from there, when it was a real rough house,we moved out in the 70s,we see that today it is becoming yuppy land,we visited it together over xmas and found it changing a lot but spose it has to be for the good, but do miss the camaraderie that we were famous for back in the old days.

I remember it from the 70s and 80s, I never felt unsafe walking around there at night though it wasn't as well lit as Oxford Street.

Did you move out far?

Welcome chris!
The poolhall's a great equalizer. In the poolhall, nobody cares how old you are, how young you are, what color your skin is or how much money you've got in your pocket... It's about how you move. I remember this kid once who could move around a pool table like nobody had ever seen. Hour after hour, rack after rack, his shots just went in. The cue was part of his arm and the balls had eyes. And the thing that made him so good was... He thought he could never miss. I know, 'cause that kid was me.

thanks all for the welcomes,in reply to the matter of hoxton not being an unsafe place to venture heres a story from my childhood.when i was a young lad it was my job to fetch the coal in my small brothersd pram, now to get this i had to go threu the roughest part of hoxton,if the urchins heard the cash in my pocket they would have taken it from me(didnt call it mugging then)so i had to hide it in my mouth to stop it jingling, well they would shout abuse and ide mumble an answer, they new i was very hard of hearing too and used to shout,"THERES THE DEAF AND DUMB KID WITH HIS PRAM"!ide run like a greyhound to get home in one peice.another time they found a police officer dead ,he had been put into a drain hole upside down till he drowned!
