Is Linux Really a Contender Against Longhorn?

Have decided the server I need to buy will be linux. Fraction of the cost and the money saved can go on the hardware. I would dump windows but there are some programmes I have just got to use that are windows only. Use star office instead of MS office, it has a lot going for it. I am using firefox to view this site, think I will try one of the open source e-mail software as well.

It's very bad that one company should have such a dominamt position, especially when it is not averse to using its muscle to quash rivals- its the consumer that pays.
