What If .....?

Post by meltonpie »

In my early twenties I was in the fortunate (!?) position of having the attention of two young ladies. We all got on well together, but there was a certain rivalry because it was intimated to me that if I asked either of them to marry me, they would both say "Yes".

I did in fact ask one of them, and Betty and I have been together now for 55 years, so I suppose you could say I made the right decision. We are still friends with the other member of the trio (who incidentally married and had four children!), but I still sometimes wonder "What if .........?). Obviously life would have taken a very different course.

Now! ......... I've made my confession. What can you look back on, and the decisions you have made, and then wonder "What if.......?")

That's easy. Not allowing a BF that I'd been hanging out with for 6 months convince me to marry him! Thatnk GOD I waited!!!

My "what if" is not one of my own actions:

What if my mother had taken me to a psychiatrist when I was plagued by hallucinations at the age of 7? A whole can of worms could have been released before they had time to eat away at the bunch of us.

Interesting question. Mine would be, What if I was given more of a chance to learn and grow into a responsible adult when I was young....would I have few issues today?

Too many what ifs to contemplate. Today is a blank slate though.

These kinds of what-ifs are good, at least far better than freezing in indecision before acting because of the infinite negative what-ifs.

*added* Congrats on the long marriage. Ours is further back on the same road.
