ditto for me, I love to give gifts. This year I am buying NOTHING. I can't do it at all, so therefore that is my biggest complaint for the holiday this year.

If I don't have alot of money, I would make you something that meant something straight from my heart.
Maybe like a small boat, that we could drift along the shores of the ocean and have dinner for a couple of hours. :yh_wink

The fake niceness.
That and bell ringers.
And things like Christmas Baskets for the needy. I guess as long as they get a Cmas basket, they don't need to eat the other 364 days of the year.
Gift animals. Those poor pups and kittens who go to the pound because they were not wanted after all.

I love the holidays as well, and the only complaint I can think of is my inability to STOP spending
Puts me in a bind every year

The only thing that is really annoying me at the moment is the fake carol singers coming round. I love carol singing I would welcome the real thing with open arms but this is two or three teenagers that ring the bell and then sing a couple of lines of We wish you a Merry Christmas usually getting it wrong, then petering out expecting you to hand over money for that. Grrrrr!:-5

Maybe down through the decades others who are non believers, or those who no longer are practising Christians take the opportunity to act in a more Christian manner.
I like how on most holidays that can be categorized as predominately religious can also be celebrated by people who don't center their entire lifestyles around religion.
I know this is in contrast to the thread, but considering the conversation, I feel inclined to voice my opinion.
I like how an overwhelming religious celebration can be celebrated by all who just simply enjoy their likeness what it is they are celebrating.
You don't have to be christian to enjoy Christmas, all you have to be is a relatively thoughtful person that just likes the joyess atmosphere of what it is the holiday brings out in people.
For religious people Christmas is a time to celebrate Jesus' birthday,..but for people not so religious, it's just a good time.

I honestly hate having to get all the toys out of their packaging. I spend 20 minutes wrestling the crap out of the box, then another hour undoing all the little twist ties they have connecting the toy to cardboard. And don't even get me started on the the whole army men toys. Come on, how many freaking guns, grenades and all that crap does a 2 inch plastic soldier need

The only thing I can see wrong with a religious holiday being practiced by non religious people is if they try and impose their belief that the celebration itself should cease to be what it was to begin with.
What you have is what you get, and to change Christmas from anything other than what it is to people who passionately celebrate it personally is the real unfavorable thing to do in my opinion, and that much I can agree on.

Christmas for me is still a religious festival, with family.
I'm sorry it's been turned into a stressful buying fest
I'm sorry people feel they have to go into debt to fulfil some kind of social expectations
I'm sorry that all this makes people tired and cranky and unkind to each other
I'm sorry when parents pass on to their kids this feeling that love means giving big expensive toys nobody really wants or needs just because, as the admen said, 'every other kid will have them'
I'm sorry when people use Christmas as an excuse to eat too much, get drunk, be obnoxious at office parties and all that
I'm sorry that Commerce has hijacked the meaning out of the original Holy Day.
You don't have to be like this!!!!!!!
I think we're lucky to have holidays, and from there, it's what you make it.

I see your point, but I would add that there is nothing affiliated with Halloween in comparison to that of marriage being an event of love, compassion, and bearing child much in the same that Christmas represents an overwhelming idea of love, kindness, and that of celebrating by giving that very same child the most expensive, and numerous gifts of all Holidays as a means of showing such love.
Obviously Santa, has some things he likes to give out too. Which goes to show you how popular Christmas really is and should be.
