Who likes almost all gifts they receive for christmas?
Who is usually disappointed in the gifts they receive for christmas?
I have always loved every gift I have received, and as a mother believe me that gold spray painted macaroni necklace was a real treasure till it evaporated.
However I know a family who is never grateful for their gifts, they have either returned them to the giver, or taken them back to the store or done nothing with their gifts to the point where now they all decided to just not bother..... How sad is that? (all adults of course). That kind of attitude makes me mental, the giver usuallyl puts some thought into the gifts... I know I do, and hey it takes thought on any givers part to pick a gift.... do I just live in a happy little bubble or is that really sad behavior?

I have an amusing memory, from when I was a teen. I happen to be an oddball person who has never cared for cake..in any way shape or form. At my birthdays, my mom either got me a birthday pie...or just a special desert.
One year, my aunt came over, with a big @ss tray of cupcakes. She then announced, I know you don't like cake...so I baked you these. Happy Birthday. Her her heart was in the right place...but my mom and I got a chuckle of of it. And yes..I did eat one with my aunt, just to please her.

Thanks for that guys.... I really was beginning to wonder if me and my family were oddities in our thoughts on this....
Bloody hell the family I reference are pretty messed anyway, and they bitch and moan they hate christmas because in the past they have been awful christmas's.... however!!!! My family has made offers for them to join us (any excuse for a party and fun time) and they balk, well one member balks out of embarassment and shame.... and moans more about if we had crappy christmas's for X number of years I would feel the same.... Horse doo I would, I would embrase the chance for change.....
Argh....:-5
Ok thanks for the input I feel fine now.... to heck with them they can go to Swiss Chalet for dinner :p

I've never experienced not liking a gift, but I don't think I ever would either, because for me it's the thought that counts, more so than what's in the package. I really love giving gifts too, cause I love to shop for everyone and figure out what they'd like best.

I am happy with any gift I receive. So if there is anybody here that's wants to send me one, let me know. I will pm them my address:D

Good topic, Minks.
The only gifts I can recall not being really crazy about were board games like "Upwords." I used to win spelling bees when I was a kid and people were always giving me word games. I didn't hate them or really dislike them, just wasn't too crazy about them. But I never let on. I think showing that you don't like a person's gift is absolutely obscene. People always seem to give me things I like. maybe I like many things or most probably they know me well. I'm not saying it because it sounds nice either; I truly love that someone would think of me and it really IS the thought that counts. I have always been this way. I have been on the other end once when someone gave me back a gift because she didn't like garlic and I was totally offended and hurt. I was also alerted to her crappy manners but she was just that kind of person anyway.
Even if I did get a gift I didn't like, I would most likely keep it. Maybe in a closet but you wouldn't see me returning it to the store. The only exception to the above would be if someone gave me something obnoxious and horrific like a fur coat or elephant foot plant stand. But anyone who knows me knows better than that anyway.

I mostly like the gifts I receive. I did return a few wedding presents, because they were duplicates of things I'd received already. I don't, however, think that "It was a gift," is a good enough reason to keep something that doesn't add to my life. If I don't love it, use it, or make money from it, out it goes.
I used to make things to give; my sister has clothes and jewelry that were made especially for her. Now, however, I stick to the gift-giving philosophy of not giving people things that contribute to their clutter. I give things like movie passes, theater tickets, and the like.
I don't give gift cards. That just screams, "I DIDN'T GIVE THIS GIFT ANY THOUGHT AT ALL," to me.

LOL...well, pardon me for a few moments, as I'll be over here in the corner trying to drag my foot out of my mouth...
It wasn't intended as a slam on anyone else. Just a personal thing. If you got what they asked for, they'll be happy. (not that you need *my* permission, of course
) It sure makes it easy to shop.

Great question, Minks!
I love anything anyone gives me, no matter what. But the very BEST part of the gift exchange is watching my husband and my son tear into their stuff!

Re: gift cards....
I have always thought that gift cards were thoughtless too but I have two friends who love them. It took almost ten years for one of the friends to convince me she really wanted gift cards! She says a gift card says to her that the giver thinks so much of her that they want her to have a good time on them. So I asked for a list of all the places she wanted a card from this year. I still wince a little because I'd prefer to give something with more sentimentality behind it and because I don't like the recipient knowing how much I did or didn't spend on them.
But you know apparently there are people who really like these things. After all, I love fruitcake and that's supposed to be a crime. :wah:
