Footnote: According to the Oxford English Dictionary (second edition) there are 171,476 English words in current use of which about one seventh are verbs. This means that there are about 25,000 English verbs in current use. As far as I know, all English verbs can have an -ing form. Many nouns of course also end in -ing. This thread now has 1675 posts, with possible duplicate offerings. The first post was early in March of this year, which is about 200 posts a month or 70 a day - by my weak mathematics. You know, if we're really systematic and worked in teams, we could probably cover the whole gamut of -ing words, in a relatively short time.
Would we include obsolete words??? Would we include words found in Australian,
American, Canadian dictionaries?
