"An armed robber today described the "split second" he fatally shot a policewoman while escaping from a raid on a city centre travel agency.
Pc Sharon Beshenivsky
Yusuf Jama, 20, a Somali, claimed the 9mm self-loading pistol he was carrying went off accidentally three times as he and two accomplices fled.
The first shot killed Pc Sharon Beshenivsky, 38, and a second seriously wounded her colleague Pc Teresa Milburn who were responding to a panic alarm.
Jama, his elder brother Mustaf and Muzzaker Shah, 25, had just held up the Universal Express premises in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
He told Newcastle Crown Court they "panicked" after two community wardens had earlier arrived at the door.
Jama said: "We came out running, I just remember hearing me pulling the trigger sort of thing and a muffled sound. I couldn't see anyone in front of me. Everything's a blur."
He claimed he was "tipsy" during the raid on Nov 18 last year having drunk half a bottle of vodka earlier in the day."

i read that on the BBC today, self-induced impairment doesn't excuse what he did. gun fired 3 times accidently?? he was committing a felony and killed an urarmed female constable. he can go hang.
