Xmas is coming

Post by buttercup »

So halloween is past & christmas is coming, time to start making the list & what to get everyone?

Ive an 11 year old girl on my list who has super well off parents & so really wants for nothing, its always a struggle getting her a gift, im not a fan of giving money, i know many people think its good so that the kid can pick what they want but i like to give a gift.

Any ideas ?

1) Could you give her money that has to be given to the charity of her choice? She gets to research and choose where.

2) Would she like a manicure and pedicure from you?

3) How about tickets to a science or art museum in her area?

Those are just off the top of my head :-6

How about a plain t-shirt, but provide sequiens and crystals and glue for her to design her own top, my daughter loves things like that :)

Could you take her out to somewhere like Claires Accessories and let her go mad with the girly stuff or to a book shop to choose some books, throw in lunch at McDonalds or somewhere and make it a fun time for the two of you. My 11 year old girl loves that.

That's a tough one Buttercup. How bout a gift certificate for a manicures, pedicures, or even to have her hair highlighted or something.

Hi Buttercup,

These are all fab ideas!

You could name a star after her (they have places for that, I could find you a link) and then give her a star necklace so she'd have something tangible as well....

Love the pet adoption idea!! I have adopted a wolf and elephant for my mom and dad. :)

What about giving her something that can only come from you? Do you have a special talent or skill? Could you make her something or teach her how to do something cool? I particularly like the suggestion of the two of you spending the day together doing something because you know, that's something you can't just buy. It's quality time spent together.

Being at a total loss as to what to get my family. I thought I'd buy my 7 grandchildren Premium Bonds.....the smallest 'batch' you can buy is £100s worth......thinking cap back on !!!

BC, buy her a cool looking (in you mind) pair of Sneakers!

With a note in the box stating that if she did not like them, you would be more than happy to take her Sneaker shopping. Then she could pick out the pair of her choice.

This way you actually gave a gift that "You picked out", & if it turned out she didn't like them, you could get some quality time & fun shopping with her.

And in the end who knows, she just might love the Sneaks you picked out in the first place! So it seems like it would be a win-win situation all the way round. :)

You could always open a savings account for each of them and put £10 in every christmas and birthday, then get a small gift too. If the account cant be touched until they're 18 they'll have a nice nest egg for a car or a holiday or a gap year! :)

One child I used to nanny for had a 'wine account'! An extremely expensive bottle of wine was 'laid down' for him every birthday and christmas until he was 21! Kind of a nice idea but also encouraging him towards potential alcoholism imo. (He's the sort of kid who'll drink the lot as soon as he gets it, rather than savouring and enjoying it! :-5
