Dogs Drinking from Toilet

Post by RedGlitter »

I have dogs. I have toilets. My dogs have a water bowl and do not drink from the toilet. I don't understand why many people think the toilet is a perfect water bowl. They say "It's clean water!" Okay, would YOU drink from it? You can't tell me there's no bacteria or microscopic fecal spores in that water. If your dog drinks from that water and then kisses you.... :yh_sick

YARTKTLD!! (Yet Another Reason To Keep Toilet Lids DOWN!!) ;)

I'd actually be far more worried about the cleansers people use in

their toilet bowls than anything else.

There are child safety lid locks you can use for a really persistent

toilet bowl drinker. Spending time TRAINING would be even better!

I'm lucky in that Buster couldn't even *reach* the toilet to lick out of it  :)

My current problem is that my cat Rusty loves to eat dog food.

And my dog Buster loves to eat cat food.

There's gotta be a joke in there somewhere

Why Rusty eats dog food I dunno but Buster likes cat food 'cause

of the higher protein content!!

Val

Isn't it also higher in calories? Should I be extra careful about him eating *any* of it? :)

My Lulu doesn't WANT to drink from the toilet! Shows her obvious intelligence, doesn't it? And no, Red, I don't think you're on crack! Blinded by your own GLITTER, perhaps? :wah:

The only dog I've ever owned that drank from the toilet was my great dane. Even if we put the lid down, she would nose it up and drink, and drink, and drink till there was nothing left in the bowl. She was a strange dog.

(I wonder if dogs who drink from toilets could be pursuaded to stop by having their water bowls on bricks or raised up in another manner?)

I dunno Lulu, Licorice's water bowl was on a small stool for her as was her food dish. I knew to keep her food elevated to help prevent her gut from twisting.

Ok. For many years, I had a collie that would drink out of the toilet. Since she was very picky about her water - we made sure that everyone flushed everytime they walked in the bathroom (no matter what they were doing) and we didn't use cleaners in the toilet.

I had one Afghan Hound who insisted the toilet had the best water. His dish was one of those tall, up on legs type too, but we had to keep the lid down at all times or he would sneak and come triumphantly out of the bathroom, ears dripping toilet water and a smile on his face:o

On a serious note folks... if you were ever to have to evacuate for

some reason and couldn't take your pet with you, a toilet bowl or

tank (without any "additives") could prove to be a valuable source

of water.

Dogs drink from puddles, standing water anywhere, gooky streams, polluted rivers etc.... No I would not drink from a toilet bowl....

Both my dog and cat drink from the toilet, both get fresh water in a bowl daily and prefer the toilet... When I go to clean the toilets I scrub them out well

Buster for some reason loves to eat the chair pads I have on the chair legs to prevent them from scratching the hardwood floors.

He then proceeds to throw them up.

She nibbles on my ears too. I just hope I do not end up with multiple piercings or something.

Current dog wouldn't have a cat in hells chance of reaching but our previous dog did.

It wasn't anything we trained him to do - mostly he was too lazy to walk round to the kitchen to his bowl. Never did him any harm.
