Principal cancels dances for the rest of the year

Post by valerie »

A principal in a high school north of here has cancelled dances for the rest of the

school year because of "suggestive dancing and heavy drinking" at

an October 7th homecoming dance.

That means no prom, and I'm with the kids on this one, I think it's

punishing the many for the actions of a few. I'm sure there are kids

who would want to go to prom who weren't even AT this dance.

I don't see why the school just couldn't suspend the kids, as well as prevent them from going to future events, that were the ones who were actually involved in it. If the school was unable to catch the ones who were involved, this indicates their lack of execution in dealing with school policy.

I never was in to that scene...

I went with my girlfriend once, but that was just because she wanted to go...

I hardly ever went to school either...I always went strolling in at noon, and only about three days a week. I always went on game days, as I played sports...I don't know why they tolerated me because they never said a word about my truancy...They never made me sit out of a game that's for sure. Even one time my coach sat me out of a game for missing practice, still put me in to pinch hit because we were getting beat so bad...I lined a single on the first pitch to right field. :sneaky:

Do you have that article?

If this is the same Principal he threatened no Homecoming dance and he had called for parents to come to a special meeting to get them involved......He must of have let them have the homecoming and i guess it didn't go well.

Looking back in retrospect they stopped having dances at my school(except homecoming and prom) due to lack of interest, everybody thought they were stupid, (I thought that was sad) so everyone just went to party's and that is so scary to think about today (this late 60's early 70's)

 that was before MADD or Mandatory seat belts.

You are kidding right? It's like somethimng from that film footloose. We have similar problems with drink here but how hard would it be to confiscate drink and throw out anyone drunk. As to suggestive dancing that would just get laughed out of sight nowadays. It's a real blast from the past when rock and roll was considered lewd and suggestive and parents disapproved.

Bet he was a hippie in his youth.
