Irish woman told to get out of Britain

An Irish woman was told by her employer to 'get out of Britain, if she did not speak the Queen's English'. She was employed by the Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service. A tribunal in Reading heard yesterday. The Irish women, from County Galway in Southern Ireland is claiming discrimination and victimisation, contrary to the UK Race Relations Act.

Not surprising. I'm told Irish are treated much as Mexicans are here in the U.S. Shameful. Long Live the Irish Republic.

Looks like the Brits got something right. I wish our U.S.of A. would grow the kahona's big enough to do that. I tip my hat to the Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service.

But I do believe that one should learn the language and customs of a country they wish to reside in. Don't expect the host country to change for you. If your customs and language are so great, than why are you here? If I want to live in Mexico, I'll learn to speak spanish, and eat taco's. If I want to live in Ireland, I'll speak Irish and learn to drink Geneus. (sp)

Capn, you are struggling a bit here, don't the comments tell you something about the level of understanding

Personally I think it's bloody outrageous, if this is a problem for this particular service how come my calls to my bank get answered by someone in India, I would say that I average 2-3 redials to get someone who I can understand or understands me. This lady is going to make a few bob in compo in my opinion. Plus which I would rather listen to an irish accent than the bloody "Mockney" that seems to abound south of Watford.

This is like someone from Georgia being fired from their job in Boston because they have a funny accent.

I agree with Bothwell it's outrageous. What is it about southern English that they think everybody else talks funny. I can tell you from experiencee they can't tell an irish accent from a Scots one.

None of them can talk properly anyway. There's not one than can pronounce their r's properly. 50million all with the same speech impediment
