A variation of the argument thread..

Post by Marie5656 »

Going along with how we argue...WHY do you think we argue? Arguing seems to be a part of every relationship....men and women, parent and child....it seems our nature to need to argue. Do we not realize it does not accomplish anything except getting all parties involved in an even higher state of anxiety?

What gives here?

I don't agree. Pun not really intended, but I disagree that arguments serve no purpose. My family argues constantly regarding politics. My grandfather is quite conservative, my aunt is what Rush Limbaugh terms a "feminazi", and my father makes good ol' Rush look like a flaming leftist. With that combination, it's hard not to disagree. But it means that everyone in the family has strong beliefs and the ability to defend them, because you have to, in this crowd. So, it accomplishes the aim of making me really think about what I believe, and why.

Debate is healthy; it's conformity that is deadly.

Oh Marie

I don't agree with you here :)

Conflict is unavoidable. The only way to *try* to avoid it is to ignore it -- and sooner or later it WILL rear its ugly head in a possibly explosive manner.

It's resolving conflict that is key. And arguing doesn't have to mean yelling, screaming, door-slamming, ingnoring each other.

It can really be an educated, informed exchange between two people.

You can either end up on the same side, or simply agree to disagree.

I do not agree with you in this part. Arguing is healthy but always arguing is not. Through arguing you will know more about the personality of the other one.
