chihuahua/terrior mix

Post by sherri »

Hi, I am Sherri, new to the group and really hope someone can give me some feedback, I guess maybe I need to "vent" I or we, I guess have a chi/terrior mix breed, maybe 10 lbs. and WOW ! What an attitude he can have, but I believe that very well maybe the temperment of the breed, anyway...(not the first time) last night "TJ" growled and decided to bite "J" who jerked him up by the neck, like a Momma would do her pup and was screaming and yelling at him (now TJ does bite, he has bitten "J" the most I would like to add, I am sure I've know idea why...hmmmmmmm The little dog was terrified, screaming and yelping and just pitiful, "J" slapped him on the side of his face several times, and of'course stuck his fingers right back up their and little TJ tried to bite him again, I believe he was feeling challenged, "J" who is a grown 42 yr. old man for Gods Sake, just stared into his eyes, they were almost nose to nose, and I was sitting right their, the time before, I left the room, I mean there is no controlling this man, acting like an idiot, well.....afterwards poor little TJ's eye was all blood shot, he had busted a blood vessel in his eye, he was very sad the rest of the evening, opting to stay away from all of us, and he loves me to death. I just think it is a shame that a grown man would act this way. Of'course he says, "i feed the little bastard he is not gonna bite me....." What should I do? Get rid of the man, well... I am working on that, but the dog (and he is or appears to be fine) is less than 10 lbs. he has an attitude to a degree anyway, because of the breed he is but...I just think it is the most horrible thing I have ever seen. Now...Right is Right and Wrong is Wrong and I know I am right, so I dont feel there is any discussion any one will want to have on that, just give me some feedback on how you would have handled this situation, I just hope TJ is not ruined for life ya'know?

Keep the pooch and lose the dude are ery wise words, but you need to know WHY.

First off, how long have you had this dog? Since he was a baby? Who did he live with before you? What sort of training and socialization have you done with your pet? And lastly, your dog does not act the way he does because of his breed, you acually more likely have a dominance issue with this pup.

It is not acceptable for a grown man to treat a little dog like that. I don't know why your dog acts like he does as I don't have enough info about him, but I'll guarantee you it has something to do with the jerk you're living with! Dogs know good people from bad people and if you pay attention, they'll tell you what you need to know. Your man has a very ignorant concept of dogs and that's putting it lightly. I wouldn't be surprised if he would treat a child or you the same way if either pissed him off. Your dog now has a broken blood vessel in his eye. What does that tell you, Sherri? That's animal cruelty right there. Get this little dog into a foster home or another permanent home (not the damn pound!) before this man hurts him worse or even kills him.

It's YOUR job to protect and look after this dog. You've seen what can happen, now act on it. If anything, what happened to this little guy is to show you this man's true colors.

You ask how we would have handled it. If it were me, that SOB would be out on his @ss. NOBODY ever mistreats an animal in front of me, and damn sure not MY animal!!! EVER!!!

Yup. Yup. Yup. Yup. I agree with all of the above.

You have to decide if you want to live with a creature who loves you to bits or a creature who is abusive and angry.

And sweetheart, you're better than that last choice!

Hugs to you. :yh_hugs

Now its time for the Order of the Wellie! :D

You need to stop working on getting rid of the man, pack up your stuff (including the poor dog) and GET OUT.

While your dog may well have a behavioural problem due to lack of training and socializing, you are never going to be able to fix it while someone is strangling and beating him.

It is proven that people who beat on animals move on to beating people. When this jerk off gets tired of hitting the dog - you will be next. He deserves some jail time but until the law starts taking animal abuse seriously, this probably is never going to happen.
