Which religion? (con't)
Someone posted a thread a while back about the different religions and finding faith etc, and I enjoyed reading some really considered and open minded (not to mention kind and thoughtful) responses.
My question today is this....
1 What is your religion (should you have one)
2 If you had to choose another religion (can't have the one you've got), what would it be and why?
I have had exposure to a number of religions through my life, from childhood sunday school, to 'Cult' organisations. I don't follow a specific or 'organised' religion, I simply have my own set of beliefs which work very well for me, giving me room to grow, leaving me challenged still and supporting me when I need it. I guess I've done a bit of a pick and mix to suit myself....
I'm very interested in 'Zen' simply because it questions everything. I find it difficult to accept what I'm told without questioning it. I also like 'religions' that are less religion and more codes of social conduct. I believe that all 'religions' both henotheistic and polytheistic have thier purposes, and it's up to people to decide for themselves what fulfills their thpiwitual :wah: needs. After an involvement at a young age with a cult religion, I can look back and find that after all the heartache, I still managed to learn a lot about myself.

Of course you can't change your beliefs, this is a very hypothetical question. let me put it a different way. What is important to you in your religion - can you find this in any others? I promise I won't hold you to your answer!

Ha!
No, I think I do better off the religion threads, they become volatile here.
I wish you good luck on your search, I have found mine.

I've been a pagan for a few years now, but if I had to change, say if they brought the witchcraft act back then I'd probably go for buddhism, as that seems like a lovely way to live, with principles similar to those I practice now.
I spent some time with the Wicca and Druids back in the early 90's as part of a tour I was doing in the UK. Very enlightening indeed. I was lucky enough to be allowed to one of the sunrise ceremonies and the energy I felt moved me to tears.
I've kinda found my own way now - and as I said it's a bit of a pick and mix of many.

I am the dreaded Roman Catholic
and if I can tell so can the rest of you. Religion need not be an argument.
I have attended many different churches and have found that all churches/religions have their own bad points so I didn't change from Catholic cuz all I'd be doing is switching problems.
At present I don't go to any church. My bedroom is my church, my bed....my pew, and God is there very present with me, thank God:-6

I totally agree! Religion need not be an argument at all. My post was one of interest and respect and was in no way meant to be challenging.
I am secure enough in my own religion to be able to ask and answer questions openly, without being defensive or causing upset. (I hope)

Hello Super Silly
I am Jewish.
If I had to choose a religion that intrigues and interests me, I would also choose Buddhism. It seems to be a faith of peace.
I like that :-6
And I like your question, by the way. Very thought provoking :guitarist

Hhhmmmm....I've certainly been called a nutter, but not in this context. It's uplifting to hear that there seems to be a forum that hasn't been tainted by 'the spitefuls'
I'm going to go out on a limb though, and say that Chocolate IS the only way, and the rest of you can eat ryvita!

It often takes a big event (good or bad) to make us reflect upon ourselves and examine how we feel/ what is important to us. A bereavement can often leave you feeling anger and putting up more barriers, or feeling like there is a hole in your life that needs to be filled somehow.
If you've been an atheist most of your life, then perhaps an 'organised' religion may be a bit difficult and structured for you, however this doesn't mean that there is nothing out there for you. There is support available in many forms, you just need to be open to it.
Keep an open heart and an open mind, and you can't go wrong.
ps - if you really don't believe in religion, then the Astronomers are saying that 2007 is doing to be a better year for everyone!
Cheer up, there are those around you that care about you, and wish you much love and happiness.

An interesting and thought provoking post at the beginning.
I class myself as a Christian pluralist. In that I am a Christian but do recognize the validity in all of the great faiths of the world. I am a member of the Anglican Church of Canada and such a position is recognized as acceptable.
As to the question of why; I accept Jesus as the messiah, recognizing that this is a metaphorical designation for something that is beyond human language as is the Holy Trinity. At the centre of all the great faiths are the same set of goals. In addition to that I greatly appreciate the value of my local church commuynity which I believes comes close to the kingdom of God here on earth. This does not mean there is no room for impprovement, there is.
I guess if I had to change my faith, which I have absolutely no desire to do, I would probably become a Buddhist.
Shalom

I was brought up a Methodist and would currently describe myself as an agnostic.
Budhism? Maybe but I'm not totally convinced that it *is* a religion.
Paganism - lots going for it but I've not been won over.
If I had to chose it would probably have to be Wesleyanism - or, at a push, Baptist.

I think if you look up at the sky, and see all the millions of stars (suns, galaxies..mmm chocolate) and consider that our planet is a mere pinprick in the grand scheme of things... wouldn't it be a little naive, or almost arrogant to think that we are the only form of intelligent life?
I've come to understand that I am the only form of intelligent life in my company.. but the WHOLE UNIVERSE?? C'mon!

My question today is this....
1 What is your religion (should you have one)
2 If you had to choose another religion (can't have the one you've got), what would it be and why?
Fun question.
No religion for me. They all have beautiful aspects to them but I stay miles from organized religion. I was raised Catholic (mostly kicking and screaming :wah: ) - but who knows, I may change my mind about all that some day.

I have already stated my religion and at present do not go to church because there is no religion without bad stuff so if I go to church I would go to my own.
I think I just said I would not change religions:D
