Dogs Eyes Blood Shot
I know some will probably think this is a stupid question but I have to ask since I'm being told over here that I'm overreacting...
If my 1 year old dogs eyes are really blood shot does that mean anything bad or is that normal for dogs?

Hi Rainbow
I don't know the answer but I don't think it's a stupid question at all!
I'm sure a Gardener will help you out. Good luck! :-6

It's not "normal" per se but it can be common. It can be anything from
allergies just like humans to high blood pressure or something else.
I wouldn't muck about if I were you, I'd take a trip to the vet.
Question: Do you let your dog ride with head out the car window?
Airborne irritants can cause bloodshot eyes.
Does your dog have a field with high grass it runs through?
It's hard to say from this distance. With no pics, even.
Dogs have a third eyelid that can become inflamed, too.
Just hard to say, I'd go with a professional if I were you, the eyes
(and ears) are just nothing to mess around with.

Thank you Cheranbuster and Valerie for taking the time to answer my question (I appreciate it)! I will set up a vet appointment. I was a little embarrassed to call the vet because I wasn't sure if I was being too paranoid. This is the same dog that suffered from the poisoning and that is what made me worry even more. His eyes weren't like that initially but just recently they are completely blood shot.
Valerie,
He doesn't ride in the car but I do have a garden that he tramples through and because I haven't mowed in a while, the grass is a bit long.

One of our doggies suffers from allergies and has bloodshot eyes
We have just found out she also has corneal ulcers, which they think are being caused by ingrown eyelashes
Eyes are such an important part of all of us ... Id get it checked out, even if there is nothing wrong with your baby, as least your mind will be at ease
Let us know how things go, whether it clears up or if you take him/her to the vets

Hello Love :-6
Is this the wonderful Daisy we are talking about? You should tell your new friends here about this beautiful and special furbaby.
She's *always* been close to my heart :-4

Hi Brownley and Cher,
I haven't gotten him in yet but did speak to the vet. I had an appointment for him but then had something come up where I was unable to get him in so we rescheduled. The blood shot eyes seem to come and go and so the vet said it could wait until his visit. I'm almost positive it must be allergies then because one day he'll be fine and the next they are red again and it seems to coincide with the amount of time he spents outside. But he is due for a check up because of not being 100% himself after the poisoning.

Brownley and I are chi owners, too, so we take an *extra special* interest in your lovely little boy.
I wish I could give him a nice belly rub right about now :-4

Doggy Update: Took my poochy to the vet. The vet says he's looking good as far as mental health goes but his weight is definitely a concern. He weighed in at 10 lbs (That is one LARGE chihuahua) :-3
I told him about the advice given to me on here regarding food and the vet completely agreed. We will be putting him on a senior brand food to cut the calories and the vet even said we could cut the recommended portion in half. I was not given the green light to put the pooch on a FASTING DIET :wah:
His blood shot eyes are (as I was told here) allergies. See, I don't even need to make trips to the vet - we have our own vet service here at forum garden So he isn't on any meds - I just need to given benadryl if his eyes flair up again.
So anyway... Things are good - just need to get the baby boys weight down before it starts to effect his health.
Thanks again everyone for the wonderful support and the great advice!
