Is *any* music original any more? All we seem to get is old stuff re-cycled ("covered"). Why, some music is hundreds of years old!

Its like anyting else. You have your Golden Oldies and everything else is wannabe material. Black Flag, Day Glo Abortions, D. O. A., BFG, Ramones, Sid Vicious and on and on and on.

Each generation has its own 'original' songwriters. However, due to certain formulae the music companies utilise to determine whether a particular song/group will market well, much of what would be 'new' and 'innovative' fails to make it to the mainstream music market.

I've recently discovered that the music industry is actually using predictive software to determine the popularity of a tune. You can read the article that covers this here.
